Couldn’t send live earlier. This is just before the snow/rain mix started. Rappelling down on wet Oplux was not fun. Note the electrical tape on the end of the barrel. Not only good for rain but keeps bark and other crap out of the barrel too.

I’m going to try the 9mm C-IV Canyon rope. Supposedly it doesn’t absorb the water like Oplux and it will be in spec with the safeguard. We’ll see how that goes.

It definitely is better in wet conditions than oplux. Have used both lately.

Another advantage for the super munter.... Wet rope actually increases friction or so it seems

The times I rappel in the rain the hitch seemed to bite harder and was not as smooth as normal

Good to hear. Thanks.

I thought about HTP but hear it’s pretty stiff in comparison and doesn’t pack as well as the C-IV.

No problem putting 40’ of htp in fleece pouch, figure 8 coil from elbow around thumb, fold in half and place in pouch. Safeguard, biner, celtic knot, and triangle link and all.

Going out in steady rain tomorrow & will be rappelling with oplux for the first time in the rain. Is the issue lack of friction with the autoblock?

I wish I was a headlight on a north-bound train
I felt like the Oplux was thoroughly soaked within minutes of my attaching it to the tree despite spending the morning in my pack . My Safeguard was actually wringing water out of it. To be fair it is out of spec for the Safeguard but it felt like it slid more readily through the cam. It did stop when I released the cam but there was less control in my descent. Add to that the fact that I have a certain amount of trouble just grasping the small diameter Oplux with my old, knarled off hand when its dry and it was a sketchy ride at best. For now I have swapped back to my 11.5mm Tachyon.
