Live from the saddle 2020

Turns out I hit the doe and put a bad shot on her. I tracked the blood and found her alive and had to finish her off. I’m very dissapointed in myself, but I’m glad I was able to find her.
Bad shots fed many tribes. You brought home the groceries, at the end of the day it all worked out. I spined a spike this year and although I had to follow up shoot it, I did not have to trail it. My buddy shot a deer right in the heart with a muzzy 4 blade and we had to trail it almost 300 yards. Had a perfect x in the middle of its pump and still made it a long way.

Deer season closed Jan 31 by me but have another 29 days of squirrel. Jx3 was was a bit overkill for squirrel hunting but wanted to test some new rappel gear. Took out this bushy tail at 45 yards with my 25 cal Benjamin Marauder. Think that makes a dozen so far this season.

Live from the saddle, featuring Sally. There were 8 does in the field when I was walking in. The stretch of thin woods runs the river. Decided to walk back and try to get in front of them. I had some slight difficulty and I think they went out and around me.

Smart man. Wearing the full body harness just in case. Good luck, We are all rooting for you. No pressure. LOL.

It was raining hard this morning. I didn’t have a good spot picked out so I drove around indecisively. I finally picked a spot but almost got my Honda Civic stuck. Decided to go to another spot and I actually got my car stuck. Rain was easing off so I decided to creep in the woods. Lots of thick privet but I found a way through it and it opened up a little with some decent deer sign. I’m 75 yard off the tip of a field. The water is all the way up to it. I hope to find a doe cruising the water edge. Afterwards I’ll be bothering one of my buddies with a truck to come pull me out. Glad to be in the woods though. 7DBFD912-2D57-43A9-ABBC-EFD374CAEF84.png

Last hunt of my 2019 season. I couldn’t walk anywhere without bumping deer on the way in. Now the wind is throwing me around in this pine. I’m hoping to catch one slipping up to this field early. A9C353B6-E6B9-4A4C-950E-9AC1F08D8812.png

I’ll start from NW Colorado elk season. Two days ago.......prior to today’s snow storm. 9500' elevation, 85 degrees.......way too hot to elk hunt.....but, great to be in a tree again!!! Good luck to all this year.

Sorry.....just realized this is a "Deer Hunting" forum.....not many elk hunters on this site, so let's consider elk "very slow deer" today? LOL
Those of us whose seasons haven't started yet will take any "Live from the Saddle" experience we can get. :tearsofjoy:
Especially with scenery like that. Good Luck!

Monday can’t come soon enough! A major cold front rolling through right now. 96 yesterday 50 right now. Wish it opened tomorrow!

What kind of tree is that? Cool looking bark

To be honest I’m not 100% sure. I believe it’s a different type of white oak that we have. Some are flaky like this one and others are not. Truly have no clue
