Live from the saddle 2021

Let a small doe and button buck walk this AM then got busted by a group of 3 a hour later, hoping they keep moving around, I’m staying out for a while. If I’m being honest, the main reason I’m staying is to eat this leftover backstrap sandwich in the same woods it grew up in…

@GCTerpfan congrats, and with a trad bow, nice job.

sandwich was great, but the only deer I’ve seen in hours. Nice day out though.

3:15 edit: looks like an all day sit for me at this point, only about a month or two early lol! good luck to everyone that comes out this evening and wonders why the heck I stayed!

The “camera” in the shot sure looks like a trad bow. Lol good luck to you and dad and katiesmom and everyone else. I now understand why all day sits get saved for the rut lol at least I had some practice last year

Good luck, maybe even get a 2-fer.

So far, I’ve got about 20 hours in the saddle over the last 2 weekends. This is far more time than I’ve put in over the last 2 gun seasons.

Haha. Cameras on the other side. I still have a buck tag and I knew if I didn't bring the bow two bucks would walk in and the second one would stand there just to tease me.

Finally got a chance to get out in Wisconsin. Selectively cut parcel (last season) with mature oaks dropping acorns surrounded by bedding. Sitting on a trail that drops off into the marsh. No deer but some booner squirrels that I swear are making more racket than the deer I'm after. Nice to be out again nonetheless.

D81EEB5D-F188-4F39-AB45-C70FE8D810C7.jpegNot the big one I had come by last weekend but big enough lol. Had a different buck do the same thing the big deer did last weekend this morning so this evening I took another set of sticks and platform with me and moved 150 yards down the line to an inside corner of the chop. I had been hunting an outside corner and the deer were cutting the corner on the wrong side of me. This move got them in front of me and when the biggest of the 3 that walked out hit the lane I let her eat. Down in 35. Little 7pt

Yesterday evening, saw no deer but plenty of squirrels. Had one on the opposite side of the creek hop through every tree possible to get to me. He climbed within 5 feet of me on another tree, stared for awhile then hopped off.

I'm late to the party! I've enjoyed reading about everyone's seasons. Figured I'd give you guys the run-down of my East TN season so far.
-Velvet hunt (Aug 28&29). This is a buck only hunt and all that came within stick bow range were does and little fellas.
-Sept 18-19 (early season on a specific national forrest) whiffed a chip shot at a doe and a little spike hung out by the stand for 30 min, which was almost enough time for me to convince myself he'd eat well.
-Statewide opening weekend (Sept 25&26). Had a doe sneak in to 10 yards and spot me while I was messing around filming a little 3-pointer. Busted five does as soon as me feet hit the ground on the climb down, and saw some of the crazy pressure on one of our local, heavily hunted WMAs. Looking forward to an awesome season!

The one day i decide to try walking in with my bow strapped to my pack instead of in my hand i jump a yote at 15 yards.

I've been scouting my butt off this year so far, haven't hunted much. Finally found some hot white oaks, fingers crossed
