LIVE from the saddle 2023

could just be the angle, but do you keep your bow that low during a hunt or was this just for a picture and getting set up? It looks like the grip is platform height. Also, it looks like you have it on a closed sbiner. Again, is that just getting set up?
This is a non typical set up, lost my open shiner so using a closed one. I leave it low like that so I can get it off easily, otherwise I have to hold the bow and reach high to get it. This wouldn’t be where or how I typically have my bow no.

Not my morning so far. Got down the hill in my truck, realized the hill is too muddy to get back up in my truck. I can get halfway up (while obliterating the grass) and then there’s a hump where gravity is my enemy. Can’t get the truck past this 6-12’ span with no traction. I’m trying to avoid calling a tow winch in, cuz $$$, so I’m hoping the wind firms the ground up here soon and I can get back up. I was not even going to hunt because I spooked a few deer with trying to get up the hill initially, but I figured I’m already down here so I got into the stand anyway. Any thoughts on a trapped truck? Rain supposed to start around 1pm and I figure 9ish is the coldest part of the morning. Should I try to get it driven back up then or just call in a winch and not make things worse?

If you weren't an hour away I'd come try to help you....Been there a time or two myself..

I ended up calling AAA after the 4L setting failed to work. Don’t know if the winch is even going to be long enough. But they’ll have answers and machinery at least.

Afternoon yesterday diff location. Nice set up but a roaring stream behind me. Heard some deer moving but couldn't pinpoint location until ~1/2hr after hearing them. ~80yds over my right shoulder saw one curled white flag of a deer leaving droppings and couple deer moving close to my downwind. Brush too thick to see no binocs.

Will give it probably my last go for the season this aftn.20230128_162105_12.jpg

285’ of winch cable and a couple hundred bucks later we’re out. And so is every deer that heard my string of obscenities during the fiasco. Oh well, maybe it’s not too much to ask the universe for a fat doe to strut by the farmhouse this evening 25 yards…

I've been looking at getting a ratchet come along just for such occasions. You can buy them for rope instead of cable. Looks like the rope feeds thru for an indefinite amount of reach.

That’s a good idea. It’s not the first and won’t be the last time our poor drainage causes issues on that hill.

Lower rear tire pressure to 10psi and put it to the wood
This was my last ditch if the tow guy couldn’t help. I would have gone right for it but I was REALLY stuck and my air compressor but the dust last summer. Tow man cut me a deal and took $150 off the ticket though. Made off for a single Benjamin. He probably felt bad for me, poor little deerless fool.
Lol actually that was one of my concerns, getting a dead deer back up the hill. Unwarranted now.

Nary a glimpse or a twitch of hair or horns did I see. After spending a rainy afternoon 23' up in my tree. Although, I was not surprised. It was what I had surmised. For the wind did blow, and when it does I rarely go. Twilight did fade as the coyotes gave their serenade. I started collecting my things thinking d*** this would be easier with wings. With a frown I began my climb down. For it was time for me to get back to town. I thought to myself of the deer and my season: "Later"... As each foot in the dark struggled to find the next aider. Once on the ground I shrugged off the frown. For there were still 2 more days in my county, to try to collect my bounty. Thinking "Hey this day may not be my last."... I pulled out the phone to check the forecast. Tuesday high mid 30's wind 5-10 Northwest. These conditions for the area I hunt are always the best. After reading this I began to question. Whether my chest might be starting to feel some congestion. It seems to happen each year. This sickness we have chasing deer. Try to squeeze every last drop. We don't want to stop. It's always a battle with self. To have to put the bow back on the shelf. So not today, but Tuesday will be the end. If I get the chance an arrow I will send. Hopefully to close the season, with one more for the freezer. Literally quite anything within reason will do for this old geezer. 20230129_155542_14.jpg
