Lone Wolf Custom Gear Kuhnert Ambush Bent bolt/Fix

Great! Looks like they are getting it worked out. If someone talks to Andre, please ask him detailed questions and get detailed answers? So far it's just "we are sending a new bolt"?

20 bucks for Andre's time gladhanding customers over an underspecified 50 cent bolt?

Procuring a new bolt, shipping costs, they probably still made $8-$10 from the $20 increase. That’s my assumption.

So are they sending new buttons out to everyone that ordered a platform?

i already put an order in to McMaster Carr

That was my understanding. Not all of the 150 have shipped so they are fixing the ones that haven’t shipped first

Ok so is the moral of the story no mod putting in a versa button with a grade 8 bolt will work due to the design? It seems like that’s the consensus.

I just need to know if I should attempt to fix this or not even bother.

I wouldn’t modify until hear back from them as warranty issue would hate for them to give you hard time over brand new platform.

If that is the case then why isn't LWCG sending out an e-mail to all who purchased?

I know I received a phone call from Andre yesterday, as did others. I believe @Nutterbuster received a call from Andre and he hadn't even reached out to them about the issue. My call was later in the evening so I would guess more calls will take place today. However, I would assume that if there are any platforms that hadn't shipped by the time this issue was discovered, they'll simply replace the bolt before shipping, thus no need for a phone call.

It looks like at a minimum they are being proactive. It’ll still be interesting to learn what they deemed the problem and solution was.

I’m no engineer but my common sense would say this should be designed with drilling completely thru the post to spread the load & not have a single pt if contact be responsible for people’s safety

I hope they redesign the post

If you put a bolt in a vise, you can still bend it. Drilling completely thru the post doesn't fix the issue of where & why the bolt is bending.

Replace the bolt with a proper bolt and you fixed that issue but you will end up doubling the size of that post hole. It’s too much pressure in my opinion for such little metal on the front of the post to support it all. Looking at my platform I can’t see how it could not potentially shear off and/or suffer plastic deformation. I’m no engineer either just a frustrated guy that didn’t happen to notice or think too much about what was going on with that post before I purchased. I see two problems here:

1. Bolt

2. Post and lack of material/metal/structure supporting the bolt.

Other than that the stand is a beast and will be aces once fixed!

I think this would have been better. Keep the gray area solid and then have the mounting hardware in the red square.

I also don't see how for 300 bucks you cant get a versa button that doesn't have bolt threads exposed to your strap. Seems like something that could become and issue down the road wearing out your strap quicker. Cheap fix buying a new strap but seriously they invented the versa button and on there new stuff it seems like its an after thought.

I agree with everyone saying there can't be any wiggle room on the bolt either. If there is, it'll only make the hole larger.

Personally, I think a versa button style mounting hardware is the only solution. Whatever is on there has to be able to be snugged up applying even pressure on both the inside and outside of that piece of aluminum. You could likely manage this with a washer on the inside and out with a nut being sure there isn't any wiggle. I am assuming their versa button will be like that.

On my diy sticks I made, I did the versa button with a socket that fit over the grade 8 bolt on top of the appropriate fender washer. Sure, it is overkill, but I know that the force is being applied appropriately and evenly.

Well I received my platform today. Looks like the bolt on mine is bent right out of the box.. also noticed the hole wasn’t drilled center of the post. Closer to a third than center.... there is a large piece of material under the nut left from the water jetting that isn’t allowing the nut to lay flat or the bolt to Thread square to the post.
