I managed to put a good stalk in on this boar a couple of weeks ago. It was an incredible stalk. At first I heard some boars absolutely THROWING DOWN a couple hundred yards away. When I made it up there to assess the situation there was a group of about 10 hogs and 3 boars were in a tree top tearing the place up! They were fighting like crazy! You can see the mud all over the side of this one. If you look real close you can see the blood on his side.. that's not from my arrow, but from the other boars tusks. I managed to get into position to weave an arrow through a hole and the arrow struck true! He went about 50 yards and fell over! It was AWESOME.

My set up was a 62" Primal Tech that's around 50 pounds at my draw. The arrow is a .500 spine BE vintage with a 175 grain simmons timber shark broadhead for a total arrow weight of around 530 grains. the boar had an incredible shield. I can't believe i forgot to take picture of it. It was almost 2'' thick. The arrow penetrated the shield, should, into the rib case and make it into both lungs but did not touch the other side of the ribs. I am always amazed at how tough these animals are. To shoot this boat at less than 15 yards and his him as well as I did and it not even go through the entire rib cage is crazy! THEY ARE TOUGH!!

Looks like that Simmons did work!!
it definitely did! I think I would have liked a slightly narrower head than the 1.75" coc head lol. It definitely did the job. But i would have to shoot one at 25 yards with it lol.

How much did he weigh? I ask because around my area that's a studly set of cutters, especially relative to his perceived body size.
I am not the best at gauging weight. If I had to guess I would guess around 225 or so. I think the picture was actually makes him deceivingly small. I'll try to post a couple more pics to see if it helps put it in perspective.

Congratulations! Man, that is the best way to get them, on the ground with a longbow. I would love to get some good pig hunting going again. We had them on that lease I was in a few years ago but I don't currently have a spot that has them.

I got a picture of an absolute tank of a boar a few years back. Most of the ones I hunted were about 140 to 150 pound range. I took a few with my compound but no luck so far with trad equipment.

That Simmons broadhead really did the job.

FINE....I'll setting for the sausage.....can I pm you my address? :cryingcat:
It was good! I had 2 pigs to make into sausage and ended up with just over 125 pounds of sausage. We made about 75 pounds of link and the rest stayed patty. It's the reason I try to kill so many pigs each year.. we cook sausage pretty much every week!
