Looking for Info on Suppressors (.22 and 9mm)

I've been thinking about getting a suppressor for a while now, and I finally have enough pocket change to make it happen. I'd love to be able to squirrel hunt with a suppressed .22 in the suburbs near my house (I have access to a good 30-acre parcel, and the owner said I could gun hunt with a suppressor), and I also have a sweet little CZ Scorpion EVO 3 S1 that is begging for a can. I could probably spend $1,000 all-in, but would be ideal to spend less, and I'd probably prioritize the .22 at this point.

Do y'all have any recommendations on what I should buy and from where?

(And just in case there are any suppressor vendors on here, please DON'T respond so my post won't get moved!! Haha)

There are some manufacturers that make multi caliber suppressors. Griffin armament makes one around $1100 but other manufacturers make multi caliber cans too. You may be able to find a cheaper one. You can also shoot 22 through a 9mm can as long as the threads match for both guns, you can save money that way and you'll only pay for 1 tax stamp.

If the threads are different size you can get thread adaptors that are fairly cheap to make the fit work.

If you think you'll only shoot .22 then get a dedicated suppressor. If, however, you're serious about suppressing your Cz at one point then get a multi caliber suppressor. For the love of gawd don't forget to swap end caps! SilencerCo makes good kit. Look them up. A multi caliber will be more costly but obviously cover most of your calibers.

I have the sparrow from silencerco. Works great. Pair it with a bolt action 22 and subsonic rounds and is truly silent. With a semi auto, you hear a little noise from the action.

I’m leaning toward.22 and .25 air rifles for squirrels in urban areas. A suppressor makes it quiet but doesn’t stop bullets from leaving the property.

I just picked up a .22 mag for saddlepalooza but I was considering this can and sub sonic ammo for around MN. Plus I will be teaching my son to shoot this summer and thought a silenced rifle would be better.

I have a Rugged Obsidian .45. It's got a good warranty, excellent performance (was the quietest .45 suppressor at my time of purchase) even on a .22, and is modular so you can run it long or short depending on what you're doing. I leave it long most of the time, but run it short on my .22s. The only issue I've had with it was the internal piston cage would sometimes unscrew (some of my threads are counterclockwise).

I've used it on a lot of different guns... My "tactical squirrel gun" .22 AR build, Walther PPQ .22, HK USP Tactical 9mm, HK USP Compact .45, FN FNX45 Tactical, 3 lug on an MP5 clone... Basically, I use it on all of my pistol or rimfire caliber threaded guns except for one.

Get ready to wait and wait and wait and wait and wait some more. Whatever you do don't buy an integrally suppressed rife you will kick your self in the arse if you ever want to move it to another gun.

Refreshing this thread because I've (finally) saved up the $$ to buy a suppressor. I'm looking at the Omega 9K by SilencerCo to use on my CZ Scorpion EVO 3 S1. Does anyone have experience with that can or other 9mm cans that you recommend??

Were you still planning on using the suppressor for .22? If so, I wouldn't use the Omega 9K since it's tubeless and welded. Tubeless and welded suppressors give you more suppression for a given size, but they eliminate the ability to clean the suppressor.

Honestly, if you're new to the game, I'd get a .45 cal suppressor first so that all of your handgun needs are covered. 9mm will sound just as good through them even with the .45 end cap, because .45 suppressors are usually a bit longer. With a serviceable .45 suppressor, you can also shoot .22 through it, though you're going to want to get a dedicated .22 suppressor eventually.

I'd look at the Obsidian .45 (as I mentioned before), or the Dead Air Ghost-M. Both are capable of disassembly, and both are modular, allowing you to shorten the suppressor when you want something smaller.

If you're JUST using it on your Scorpion, and not a handgun or anything else, maybe a dedicated subgun suppressor may be interesting. They're bigger and heavier, but they'll get your gun to stupid quiet levels with a nice low tone. I was looking at the GSL Phoenix, and before that, the Dead Air Wolfman, for my MP5. I think the Phoenix is going to be my next purchase.

I would be patient for a black Friday sales the next couple weeks. Silencer shop have all kinds of black Friday sales every year. Last 2 yrs I bought a 30 cal can and got a 22lr for free.

Thanks for the helpful info! I think this first can will be dedicated just to my Scorpion, in part because every other gun I own lacks a threaded barrel. I've heard the .45 cal idea before, but all my pistols are 9mm, so a 9mm can covers those needs. I'm very intrigued by the Wolfman and Phoenix you mentioned, though. Does the inability to clean the suppressor affect function over time or anything else? Candidly, the lower maintenance sounds desirable to me, but I'm an admitted n00b in this area.

I’m on the side of a dedicated 22 suppressor. The sparrow is an awesome little suppressor that easy easy to clean and function. Then you could get something more versatile for other guns. There are plenty of good suppressors out. You will have to see what fits your needs the best.

Have you looked into doing a Form 1??

I have 4 suppressors that I have made via the Form 1 route. Two .30 cal and under for ARs and hunting guns, a 9mm and a .22 cal.

the wait time is insanely shorter and with any sort mechanical ability you’ll be able to make a good one. It is also typically a little cheaper.

my current .22 cost about $15 in material and is really quiet on a bolt gun. You basically hear the firing pin and that’s it.

Dedicated 22 can is the it way to go. I have a dead air mask. Awesome rimfire can. You have to be able to clean them they get fouled up pretty bad. I have a crux saxon 9 for 9mm and I use it on all my rifles from 338 lapua and down. But I don't believe they are in business anymore.
