Looking for Michigan Saddle hunter

Im an hour east in petersburg. use 5 steps with Kn/Sw...wouldnt say im proficient and its a pleasure to watch me climb but I get up and down.

Looking forward to the michigan meetup this year

I’m in my first year of saddle hunting and use my own modified Cain Method with the WE steps. Takes a little getting used to but I’m attached to the tree all the way up and down as I attach my steps. Takes a little bit to get up the tree but once I’m up I’ve used 6 steps and I’m at about 20 ft with 2 as my platform. I’m also in MI if you have any questions. Near Lansing.

As I sat in my climber, out of position and feeling unsure of what drove me to get one, the sun was setting on my third annual “Public land challenge”. I realized I needed to make a change and after careful research I bought the Tethrd Mantis feeling it was the best fit for me and what I wanted to get out of a true mobile set up.

I am leaning towards a knaider swaider 5 step ladder from wild edge and using two of the steps as my platform between 0-20 ft off the ground. Initial thoughts on my planned set up are welcome but screw in steps or bolts are out of the question.

I am hoping to get a person in the area with some year(s) of saddle hunting I can shoot quick questions to.

thanks

It looks like there are quite a few people willing to help you but I thought I would throw myself into the mix. I'm in Toledo, OH which is a little cruise from where you are. I use modified Hawk sticks currently with a Mantis saddle. I am about to start one-sticking up and rappelling down. I have 5 (never used) WE Stepps. So, if you're ever near Toledo and want to check anything out, let me know.

You go to any of the meet ups? Last time I missed the michigan one. If you don't or I miss it, I'd like to come try your sticks some time after season if you don't mind

Like a couple others on here, been reading the forum and trying to decide what saddle approach I want to get into. Thanks to all who have commented they're willing to help so those of us looking to get into saddle hunting know the differences.

I have seen it referenced a couple times but what is saddlepolooza?

I missed the Michigan meet up last year because I was on crutches and closing on my house. I hope there will be another one. You're more than welcome to try my sticks. They are still full size (at this time) but I added versa buttons and amsteel daisy chain.

I have done a few set ups and shot out of the mantis saddle while using 2 WE steps setup at about 8 and 4 to 9 and 3 on a tree that is about basketball size... man did I make the right choice. At least I like it because I have not tried anything else . There is definitely small things to do when setting up the WE steps to make sure they cam but overall I like them a lot.
Thanks for the input on this thread hope you all had a nice season. Maybe I will run into you in the woods.

I am in Jackson, MI. I would love to go to the meet up.

I use WE steps and have just done the webbing mod. That @ peterk1234 came up with. I got my webbing and buckles from @DanO. Caming them over is so much easier and you don't have to tie the knot. And they cam over very tight.

I am going to be using the k/s or the 5 step big wall ladder with the steps. I have practice both because so far it hasn't gone real well.

Look forward to meeting you guys.

I'll be scheduling another meet up in the near future. If anyone wants to chime in on available dates go for it, I'll do my best to accommodate as many people as possible.

We will also have a booth at the Field and Stream Expo (formerly Deer and Turkey Expo) at the Lansing Center March 13-15

Count me in from Oakland County. Looking to squeeze into my first saddle sometime soon.

I was able to catch a demonstration at the 2019 Michigan BHA Rendezvous that sold me on saddle hunting. So I'm new to saddle hunting this year as well and live in the Grand Rapids area. I've got the mantis, WE stepps, and am curious on knaider/swaider use and techniques. I'll definitely keep an eye out for a Michigan get together

I'm in the SE area also (Washington/Romeo). Just started Chemo a month ago though and waiting on a donor bone marrow match and when the call comes in I will out of commission for at least 6 months. Hopefully back in the saddle next fall. Have not been to the show in Lansing in a few years, but it was always a good one. If I am still waiting, I just might get out to the show this year, post the booth number when you have it!

That's awesome, glad you were able to make it to the BHA demo. That was quite a crowd so I wasn't really able to meet everyone individually. I'll have another saddle meet up put together soon.

Sorry to hear about your cancer. I've been a bone marrow donor for probably 10 years and have never been called as a match. Stay strong and good luck with your chemo. We'll be praying for a quick match and a speedy recovery. Looking forward to seeing you at the next meet-up.

I'll be praying for you, cancer sucks but miracles happen all the time.
If you end up making it to the Lansing show we'll be in booth #325, stop by and hang out for a bit.
We'll also be in Novi Feb 28-March 1 for the Outdoorama show
