Louisiana meet and hunt

Anyone one been out lately, I just got back from PA and am wondering what the chasing is like. My buddy is still seeing some, what are you guys seeing? Probably won’t get out until the 19th at the earliest

Man, my wife is from Bogalusa and we’re at her family’s for Christmas. Not sure how much time I’ll have or what out of state license and permit cost but I’d love to get a hog with my bow

That should be no big deal honestly. I’ve got several places I can put you to shoot a hog as long as they do their part

Quite a bit of chasing going on. To be honest I stopped getting pictures on cameras two days ago out of 7 cell cams that I’ve got out and have been seeing chasing everywhere.

Just depends on where you are going to hunt. I’ve got cameras in a 70 mile radio is of each other and some haven’t even started scrapes and rubs yet.

Been hunting polk(my buddy shot a buck there chasing today), clear creek and Peason. That being said I’m willing to drive a little for some good action and meet up with anyone free to get out.

Central East LA rut hasn’t really started yet a young buck scrape here and there is about it. I’ve only hunted a few weekends and have yet to see anything but 2 pigs in one evening. Deer population and sign in my area isn’t that abundant so far.

So I’m for sure coming to Collinston that first weekend of the second split. I’ll have four days to duck hunt our private holes just north of Wham Brake. I want to deer hunt the evenings but I’m gonna have to get on public. Is it worth it to try and get on them on Russel Sage? I’m just not sure how hard it gets hunted and if it’s worth my time. I can see there are some other small tracts of public within an hour or so of collinston-Monroe, but just have no clue and don’t wanna waste time and money lol. Any help is appreciated!

Anyone ever get together down here this year? I just extended a year at Polk so I’ll be here for another season. Question for you gents that live here, I got this pick of the rut timelines down here and was wondering how accurate it is. Let me know what you think, thanks!

I find that in my area in area 1 the rut tends to follow between dec 28-January 20 and for me that means the true chasing plus alittle lock down phase with some not much secondary rutting after the 20th. But I’ve also seen and heard of good rutting activity go into end of January and into February sometimes without much rutting activity in early January.

Pretty spot on. I hunt area 2 and 4 pretty hard and those dates are spot on.

When you look at area 2 it’s hard to explain. I’ve seen the rut have a two week difference in a 20 mile radius in area two. In natchitoches it’s right around thanksgiving, in Winnfield it’s around Christmas all the way to the second week of January, almost to fort Polk in kisatchi is last week of November to the middle of December. Allot of it depends on the amount of pressure where you are hunting as well.

My son killed the biggest buck (148inch 9pt) our club has seen in years on Nov 28 so maybe the calendar is correct.

The rut happens the same time every year regardless of weather, pressure etc. It might be a few days before or after, but it’s the same time every year. I hunt kisatchie in Winfield and have been for 35 years, we shoot a pile of bucks the week of thanksgiving before the split every single year. And in Area 4 where I live it’s the first week of Jan every year. Now you may have some does that come into heat sooner or later so it is possible to see chasing before or after, but from what I’ve seen, it has ALWASY happed where I hunt at the exact same time. I take my vacation every year because I of it.

On Saline Lake between Natchitoches and Winnfield, rut usually happens around Thanksgiving like mentioned above. Was in the woods for 2 weeks around Christmas up there and only deer I saw were ones I spooked walking to setups. Last chance this weekend before season closes. Hoping to get a shot in something!
