To me garda is best if you have a preset already in the tree or say leave your rope in the tree and hunt that same tree the next day.
What I do after my first set with the Maverick pole is climb to as close to the anchor stand on the garda, grab the other end of my tether that is on my linemans loop put that around the trunk advance that with the pole connect my other hitch to the bridge take the slack out as I stand on the garda then sit. Slack is now off my first anchor and weight is on my second. Then transfer the garda to the second weighted anchor and continue. If you need to go around a limb same concept. Hopefully that explains it. But yeah you want to transfer to keep slack out.I just ordered the supplies to DIY a Garda loop yesterday from EWO and non-locking biners from Black Diamond.
So maybe you can answer a question...? I rewatched a JRB video on climbing with the Garda loop and noticed he got the tether/rappel rope up about 14' with the Maverick pole. When he maxed that out, he did a 'transfer' but pulling up the opposite end, attaching that and reconnecting about everything before moving that end up. Is that the only way to advance the rope to get above 10-12'?
That is pretty much what I observed in the JRB video and what friends who use this ascending technique shared as well. EWO sent me a shipping up date on my order, 6mm TRC and 1" tubular webbing, while REI has shipped my pair of non-locking oval biners. Once the materials arrive, I should have a Garda loop knocked out fairly quick. My DIY Maverick pole is working well...just shorter than the commercial version that costs 4x as much. How high do you get your initial tether/rappel rope set? Do you hunt above a single 'transfer'?What I do after my first set with the Maverick pole is climb to as close to the anchor stand on the garda, grab the other end of my tether that is on my linemans loop put that around the trunk advance that with the pole connect my other hitch to the bridge take the slack out as I stand on the garda then sit. My first set is roughly 13 feet second is high enough for most hunting around 19 feet is my platform or ring of steps. That is pretty much what I observed in the JRB video and what friends who use this ascending technique shared as well. Don't forget the super manly/rugged "truck"Do Yourself In?
Didn’t know they named a pole after me. A movie and a saddle, yes, but not a pole. Very Flattering. LOL.
We don’t talk about that. Embarrassing.Don't forget the super manly/rugged "truck"

Post a picture please.I made a 9" long hooked extender for my Hooeyman collapsable 5' pole saw out of a 1'-wide strip of 1/2" thick plastic sheet that I carved to match the slide-in profile on the heel of the saw handle. So basically, the hooked extender replaces the saw for lifeline placement. I can only get about 10-12' anchor point, so only about 8-9' climbing height, but it works with a piece of equipment I typically carry with me anyway.
Post a picture please.

I like that pole..i really like mine its stout and very compact but the pole you found is not much longer collapsed an almost twice as long. I will probably get one and test it out. ThanksSo I made one like this guy does, tried it out for the first time this weekend and I really liked it. Haven't hunted with it yet, but I can see it certainly getting some action.
Here's the pole, collapses to 22" extends to almost 10' : https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DCZJM3BW?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1

I thought that too until I found a smaller pole now that I am using it to SRT I wouldn't hunt without it.Seems great but the idea of carrying the pole keeps me from biting the bullet.
As I mentioned, I only used it once so far, but I had no complaints about stoutness or anything pushing my CIV rope up the treeI like that pole..i really like mine its stout and very compact but the pole you found is not much longer collapsed an almost twice as long.
