LWCG 0.5 Full Season Review

Santa Clause that drives the big brown truck just left my driveway, 3 LWCG boxes were left, I have been lugging around tree stand paraphernalia for almost 30 years, until this year which was my first year of saddle hunting, my first impressions? They nailed it, I’m not impressed easily, I have a sweet tooth for the fine stuff in life and all I can say is this thing impresses the heck out of me, a lot of thought was put into this stand by somebody that hunts, yes the edges are sharp and I have all winter to deal with that but I knew that and could care less, for how I hunt and being a newbie to saddles this is exactly what I was looking for, I can enjoy the comfort my saddle gives me and have the option to shoot from a traditional stand platform like I have my entire hunting career, all while being super light and packable.... As of now this thing is sweet.

what was in teh other two boxes?

Can’t wait, UPS is in my neighborhood

A couple small things were missing, I emailed them and they responded in under 2 minutes, problem solved, so far my experience has been super good.

I just got my stand today, the customer service has been awesome. Everything came as expected in perfect condition. I was very impressed with their overall service and quality. I purchased 2 five hundred dollar gift certificates for 800 it worked out great. Sticks should be here by The Weekend. The Treestand is crazy light. I would personally skip buying a new bow and purchase a stick and stand. You will have these for 20 years, no doubt in my mind. I’ve had a Lonewolf hang on and climber for 20+ years and they are still in perfect order. I’m almost 60 years old and I look forward to carrying this stand in the woods.

I missed out on the gift certificate sale by a few hours or I would of bought a .5 stand for sure. Shawn

I have that many sets as I have several properties. I want to hunt any wind I can so some funnels have as many as 4 stands within 80 yds of each other. It is fairly easy to maintain them. It takes about 4 weekends a year. As for the sticks I hunt out of state a lot and I will take the first few days of a hunt and do a bunch of pre-sets. Now I am saddle hunting, all those sticks won't be used as much but I still will use them for permanent sets around my house. When my brother and I were hunting a bunch together in the 90's we had as many as 102 stands out there. Shawn

Traded my 1.0 for a .5 my little one approved stand is stupid light. Looks to be a good hybrid set up. Will have plenty of real estate for my wife.

Sitka fanatic pack is dead quiet and rides on this stand perfect, I overloaded it just see what I was dealing with, rides perfect and zero noise, this setup is slick, with 8 months until season what else is there too do but get ready. My titanium bolts are in the pack, the mini sticks ride so tight there should be no issue when I’m using them either, just waiting on my J bolts but there coming.

One stick setup inside bag?
What’s the total weight in pic?
And what’s your deceased deer removal method lol ?

I’ve got a fan pack on the way, this time of yr quiet climbs and gear are paramount. My other two good packs make too much noise.

What’s the safety concerns using a saddle as a fall arrest device compared to a RCH or a traditional harness??

Great write up it inspired me to pick up one of these stands also, I didn't read through everyone's comments so it might have been said but I'm planning to use a over center bucket through the bottom platform instead of the cam bucket for the side pressure

Saddles systems aren't designed for any fall with slack in the tether. Even short falls can result in very high forces. Climbing gear should have some type of shock absorbtion when any risk of a fall factor is involved.

In the rock climbing world dynamic (elastic) rope acts as the shock absorber. Tethers in the hunting world are too short for that strategy to work, but catastrophic falls are still possible.

One solution is the addition of a "screamer" into the system which is a sewn webbing release valve if you will designed to absorb the shock. It is basically a protection for the body as your spine will probably break before your saddle equipment, but broken spines are not the desired result.

I don't use one, but if I put my kids in a tree they would be, if that provides any insight into my risk acceptance.
