LWCG stand setups

Ive had the .5, .75 and 1.0. Im downsizing to just a 1.0 for everything this season. And a crossover. And this stick setup is the way for me going forward. To each his/her own and all, but to me the 1.0 is the greatest, most versatile hang on ever made.

The weight savings to me just arent worth the comfort since some planned shorter sits end up dragging into longer ones. I liked the V2 Doubles well enough, but since Im only carrying 2, I definitely prefer the room on the V1s. If I were carrying 4 doubles, Id go V2.

This is 16.8 pounds all in. Cam buckle and buckleless straps included.

1.0 with .75 seat
2 17" V1 Doubles, with with a 2 step aider, the other with a 17" cable aider. Titan strapped on.
2 14" Compacts. Sometimes Ill leave these early season which would cut down around 3 lbs.
If I use all 4, the doubles are the top and bottom sticks with the 14" compacts in the middle.
Kifaru Med Belt Pouch on bottom, Kifaru X ray straps
Ill also add a HPG medium gen purpose pouch filled with foam as a lumbar if Im going to be going in a ways.

The key to the sidekick for me is that spacer. Raising it up makes it more fluid, and less movement, with less chance of it clanging on the stand.

What’s the reason for the spacer between the platform and sidekick?

Would you run the sidekick with the bow facing the tree or away?
I would do it facing the tree, left side (right hand shooter) but make make it compatible for my longbow since I don’t have a molle hook to hang that in gear strap.

1/8" Amsteel daisy chain doing the truckers hitch where you go around the stand button through the amsteel loop and put one of the loops over the stand button. The 1/8" amsteel really bites into the tree and when you cam the stand over, there's no movement. If the daisy chain is long enough, you can use the left over to wrap around the tree again and secure the bottom stand button.
I use the method on the stand shown in that video at 3:54. No chance of any metal contact.

How’s the sag when using this?

Very rarely will I have to re cam the stand due to daisy chain coming into contact with the top cleat. I can usually hit a loop where the amsteel is almost perfectly horizontal to the button with little to no sag. I made my own daisy chains so the loops are pretty small/close together too.
I prefer the no metal contact, the amsteel doesn't seem to stretch at all and it seems to dig in better to the trees once cammed good.

Anyone that has the Ranger Hybrid ever use it as a traditional hang on and sit on the seat? I have the .5 now and normally use it as a hybrid, but do occasionally use it as a regular hang on as well. I’m 6’3” but pretty flexible so the short platform doesn’t bother me much. That said it’s like 6” longer than the Ranger Hybrid, so the Hybrid might be way too short to sit for any extended period of time. Think sitting for 3 hours or so.

Just like to overthink my setups and really don’t enjoy stepping around the cables of the .5 swinging to the strong side.

@Freddybowhunter I don’t use it strictly as a hang on. But there are situations and trees where I’m sitting on seat more than hybrid style depending on where my shot opportunities are. I’m 5’10 with size 10 foot.

If I’m sitting normally, the front half of my foot hangs off the platform. If I tuck my knees under me a bit, my toes are on platform no problem.

I could see 3 hours being no problem, I’ve done a bit longer without issue.

That’s great to know, thanks! I hunt hybrid probably 90% of the time, but like you said sometimes the right tree/shot selection dictates using it as a regular hang on. Now just a matter if I want the hassle of selling the .5 to get a Ranger hybrid haha

Are you hanging .5 and bigger stands this way?

Stands like the Millennium M7/M8 and Nested Z8 generally work better with the Stryker XL due to their seats folding back on the stand. The .5’s frame lock design (which reduces its vertical profile, but increases it’s horizontal depth), isn’t ideal for drop in. I use my Stryker XL quite a lot, but it’s not my preferred choice with my .5. Packing the .5 “upside down” (V down) is an option. But I just use a different frame pack setup.

I'm in the process of searching the site for other posts you might have might have made about this, but in the meantime I'm hoping for an Easy Button.

Could you sketch out your preferred pack(s)/tips for the LWCG stands, or point out some links?

Also, just FYI--the .5 is a smaller stand than I prefer, so I'd be in the 1.0 class with the .75 running a distant solid second place. I doubt even an obscure but very sexy packability advantage that the .75 might have in some universe would sway me, but I'm open to suggestion. LOL

So I didn't come up with anything when searching @Plebe's posts, and surprisingly nothing elsewhere on the innerwebs for mating a Stryker XL with a 1.0 or even a .75.

I have several good small stands, but am looking for something in the size and weight class of the 1.0 with a frame pack carry system including a bag.

Not going to strap a stand on top of a full pack. Not strapping bow or rifle to the pack and hand-carrying the stand.

Using the stand as a frame and shelf is okay for short hauls and if you want to fiddle around with how to carry the rest of your gear and clothing, but it's far from ideal for what I want to do, so prolly not trying that until all else fails.

Since I can't dig up anyone who is doing what I envision, it may be a lost cause ... but that's what I'm all about anyway, LOL ...

Keep both! I get butt hurt when people sell their .5’s. I’m like this is the best thing ever ha jkjk I’m tempting to try the ranger myself. Probably try one next spring

I’ve sat 3+ hours in the Ranger. Not by choice, but the tree set up dictated it. I hope to never have to do that again. I’m only 5’9 and size 10 and I can’t imagine being 6’3 and doing that…but I still grab my Ranger 9 times out of 10 over my .5. I like to sit for short periods, especially on an all day hunt during midday for periodic breaks. The seat that doubles as the knee pad is great. The wider profile up against the tree and no cables are why it’s my platform of choice vs the .5. I still like having both in my tool box.

If you could only have the ranger or .5 which would you keep?
This is the struggle right here.

If I could only have 1 platform/stand - ranger.
If I had a .5, but still mostly saddle hunted I’d get a big platform like my ambush and have both of those.

But again I’m 90% in my saddle unless tree dictates setup

@Freddybowhunter ill get a picture of foot room for me tomorrow morning, it’s slated to go out for an am sit.
