LWCG stand setups

That’s why I asked if anyone has it set up on their stand. I’m asking for examples before I set mine up.

Only two commenters and both of you fail to read the post. If you’re not using the xray straps and don’t have any economical alternatives then my post wasn’t directed at you.

If you find multiple people are not providing the answer you seek. Perhaps it was not articulated well. Please provide some clarification. What I gather is you use a frame packs to carry everything to the tree. Then you apparently ditch the frame pack? And need independent straps on a stand for climbing. To which you ask if the xray are any good or will they work. The answer is yes, virtually any shoulder straps will work for this. Since you indicated money was a factor another member suggested paracord. Am I missing something?

I can repost it for you.
Anyone using Kifaru Xray straps on their .5 stands? I’ve seen them mentioned before but not enough details on setup.

I bought a .5 secondhand and it didn’t come with straps. I’m trying to figure out a more economical alternative. Plan is to use the straps for climbing since the stand already gets carried on my frame pack.

You’re clearly being a smartass. What more is there to clarify? I said from the very start that the straps are strictly for climbing. I also asked for an economical alternative. I’m being told Xray straps suck because of padding, use paracord. Come on, yall just used your selective reading.

If you have the Xray straps or other shoulder straps mounted to your stand. I would appreciate some details on how you attached them. I’m thinking nylon webbing with a triglide could possibly work.

I've not used the xrays.

Like you I often carry my stand on a frame pack. I wear the pack up the tree for the climb because I want access to it later.

A cost effective route, and what I do, is to take the stand off my frame pack at the base of the tree and use a pullup line for the stand. Just an option.

Here’s an idea….

Don’t think I thought too much of that. I usually set my stand up then use a pull up for my pack.

You sound like a toddler, buddy. Just learn how to read and provide something useful to the conversation. Thanks for the paracord video. You could have led off with that instead of mouthing off. I think we get it, you just like to post with no added value.
It's your first day here. Let's bring the tone down a little and keep this the friendly place we try to keep it. Thanks!

Your system of setup sounds redundant.

Why not just use the frame pack to get the stand up the tree?

Are you familiar with the Stone Glacier Sky 5900? I set up at the tree. That involves removing the stand from the pack. Carrying the 5900 up the tree, removing the stand and setting up the stand would be a lot to carry even with the 5900 in bivy mode.

For me (if you were referring to me), I did this for some time, but I would have to hang the pack, then take the stand off of it. That wasn't hard, but often the hanging pack made it a little trickier to put the cam strap around the tree and keep it off of the "stuff" already hanging. So I just started dropping the stand at the bottom and once I reached height, pulling it up, hanging it, and then hanging my frame after.

I always need to dress at the bottom of the tree, which required me to remove the pack to get outerlayers, so it wasn't extra time to take the stand off.

Had quite a few folks want pics of how I connected the Kifaru x ray straps to the stand, here are some better pics.

I purchased the Kifaru x-ray straps for both my .75 and .5 stands prior to last season. (They did not get significant use last season, though. I purchased a Ranger hybrid before last season and ended up using that for most of my hunts, so I do not have a lot of field time with the x-ray straps.)

A couple of comments:
  • The x-ray straps are an economical alternative.
  • Even though I did not use them much last season, I compared them to the stock LWCG shoulder straps that I used the previous seasons and the Kifaru were an upgrade.
  • I paired them with a waist belt from Marsupial gear - this waist belt was much better than the Kifaru waistbelt for attaching to the LWCG stands. The kifaru omni belt does not have the attachment points in the middle, so avoid going that route altogether.
  • The marsupial gear belt is much better than the LWCG stock waistbelt, which was flimsy and folded over onto itself multiple times over the years.
  • The webbing at the top is 2", so you will have to come up with some way to attach the top of the shoulder straps.
  • If this is just for climbing up the treestand, it will work well for that.
  • Sometimes fit is more important than the amount of padding. (I tried a previous version of the latitude backpack straps - that were very thick - but the corners were hard and they dug into my traps - exceptionally uncomfortable!)

I will add some pictures to help you with setup if you decide to go that route.

That’s definitely an interesting setup. Haven’t heard of anyone using the marsupial gear belt with the stand. Post up some pics!

From the way your pack is set up I’m guessing you pack in and out using the stand as a frame pack?

That is a massive bag, are you normally loading it full or compressed to the frame?

Typically hunting out of a spike camp. When I’m doing day hunts I’ll compress down to bivy mode or take out the Avail depending on location. It’s really not that much heavier than a Solo 3600 and can have much more use.

Pictures posted above.

Yes, I use the stand as a frame pack. Only for hauling in the stand, sticks, and a small backpack. It is not used as a meat hauler. If I shoot something I quarter it up, haul all my gear out, and return with a dedicated meat hauling frame pack, which is more suited to that task.

For the attachment point between the xray straps and the stand: There is one long 1” webbing for the shoulder straps. It is doubled back on itself and held in place by tri-glides. The doubling back of the 1” webbing onto itself attaches the shoulder straps to the treestand and also provides a 1” strap handle for picking up the whole thing, as shown in the pictures. No sewing or special buckles required.

I’d recommend after dropping camp, move the stand to the outside as a compression for the bag. Then it would be easier to remove after climbing.

I used my sg frame in multiple fashions to haul a stand and it works great for that. However, I hate leaving gear at the base of the tree and I won’t bring the bag up with me. Ultimately, I put dedicated straps and a hip belt permanently on the .5 and won’t ever go back.
