My wife has a 15-90 clone with the belt drive motor that I have been using to (slowly, whenever I have a minute) create an Anderson style sling. I am using a #18 needle with Gutermann upholstery thread.
When attempting to punch through 3 layers of webbing everything stops moving and the motor lets out a puff of smoke. I am able to hand crank it through just fine so I was hoping someone with more experience might be able to tell me what I can do to, if anything, to get the motor to power the machine instead of me hand cranking.
Although the stitchwork does look better when hand cranking, probably from going slower. Maybe I don't want to know.

Does the motor work at all now? May need to replace the motor. They are not very expensive and easy to replace.

Yea I would just replace the motor. A new one may or may not have more power. But it will be less likely to burn your house down lol. 3 layers of webbing can be a tall order for small motored machines.

Depending on the age of this machine, you may want to rewire the motor to avoid--as mentioned by others--burning down your home.

Thanks for the replies. Is there a recommended spot to get a new motor, or just start searching eBay?

Update: I must have been doing something wrong. Went back to the machine and it powered through with no issues. Never rule out user error.
