Madrock safe guard

Thanks, That’s helpful. Good to see what someone else’s method is compared to mine.

Do you prefer using a separate short tether rather rather than the 35’ or so of rappel as a tether/rappel line. ?

Yes. I like to keep my hunting height set up as streamlined as possible. I use the same tether regardless of my climbing method.

Currently using 8mm OpLux with sewn eye and 6mm TRC distel hitch.

You can see my 9mm HTP rappel rope in the background. While hunting it’s either stuffed in a pack or hung on a branch out of the way.

Do you not like the 8mm oplux for the rappel?

Up, down all the same configuration for me. Nothing changes. Petzl ascender with Safeguard progress capture with 3:1 assist through the pulley and footloop for leg assist.

Going back earlier in this thread, so one advantage to a figure 8 vs. ATC is it can be used for more size ropes?

Depends on the ATC but most are good for a very wide range of rope diameters. Should be specified in the description. It’s more common to find ATC’s for 9mm and up but I know some are made for 8mm as well.

I love the sheath on the htp 9mm for rappel.

I run a fig 8 with kong triangle to avoid running entire tag end through loop and to avoid cross loafing with a carabiner

Can you elaborate? At what point are you concerned about cross loading your carabiner? Are you talking about SRT, rappel or on your tether?

I use a 36’ Sterling 9mm htp rope with a fig 8 on bight attached to kong triangle for girth hitch and the tag end tied to my pack/bow with a poachers knot while using hand climber. When I am done, I put bow on pack and lower it down then Rappel.
Can I just tie into the kong triangle with a poachers knot and save a little rope without a big fig 8 on bite loop?

Pictures help but I think the answer to your question is yes. I’m assuming you mean tying your paracord pull cord directly to your Kong triangle but I’m not sure how you avoid a figure eight all together unless you have a sewn loop.
Just need a little more information on what you’re asking.

I attach a small (metolius bravo wiregate) with pull cord behind my figure eight on a bite prior to descent.

Pictured is what it looks like when my rappel rope is pulled to the ground knot first.

I haven’t messed with a sewn eye rappelling line and haven’t found the need for a D ring of any kind.

Hope this helps.

Oh ya I meant rappel rope tied directly to triangle quick link. The fig8 is a bit bulky and eats up some rope length.

Do you prefer the distel hitch on your lineman’s rope or the Kong duck?
