I used a safeguard on canyon elite for several years and never had a problem, but I stay out of the trees when it's raining.
My issue wasn’t related to the rain. It was due to jamming up on the rope because it doesn’t feed as well on the larger ropes, even when it’s in spec.I used a safeguard on canyon elite for several years and never had a problem, but I stay out of the trees when it's raining.
I still use mine, don’t get me wrong about that. I LOVE the ability to easily take up slack on the way up. I also still rappel down with it, but I keep a backup way of getting down like always so there’s only aggravation if it hassles me and not an emergency.I 100% regret clicking and reading this one
What are you using now ?I had this happen a few years ago and threw mine in the trash. I have little interest in dealing with being stuck on the rope.
The best part about the munter is it only costs a carabiner. How do you like the munter hitch? I haven’t started rappelling yet but my kit from Eastern woods is on the way with a madrock lol

After hanging on your madrock for a long time the rope can milk itself binding the madrock. I've noticed that if I pull a little line through the madrock before rappel that it is smooth. I.e. raise yourself up 3-6", then pull the lever.
I've never been jammed up but have read that it can happen and that's the fix. I've only use it to make the start of rappel smoother.
The cover bunching up due to the cam would be my guess also. Slide a tensioned Prusik the entire length of the rope, if there is excess cover, cut of sealed rope end, milk out slack, and reseal.
The sliding, or creeping seems to be unpredictable when it might happen, probably why you should always have a hand on the brake strand, tie an overhand on a bight below it, or if backing up with a friction above, hang on the hitch rather than the device. A way to declutter some is to convert any friction hitch from two legs to one.

 why didn’t I think of that??? getting old is less than ideal. Heck just this morning I was driving with morning dew on my windshield like always. I refuse to turn the wipers on because I’ve convinced myself that the added concentration aids in maintaining my mental clarity. About half way to the office I was wondering why it was taking so long to clear up…..I had never turned on the defrosterAfter hanging on your madrock for a long time the rope can milk itself binding the madrock. I have had several times with the same experience with madrock on canyon elite and it has ALWAYS been on a wet rope. I am certain that has been my issue so now try to keep the excess dry if it starts raining. I dont really sit in rain often but try to wait out short showers and weatheman is often no better than a guess.
I am 185 # and have not had that issue with my madrock. I have been using it for climbing, hanging and rappelling for the last 5 seasons on Sterling canyon_iv. That is only my experience.
