Yeah. I was reading up on that just now. Hopefully I can cancel my order in time.
Got mine in... now... how the hell do you use it???
Set it up like this (don’t start out at 20’!). Pull the Ssfeguard lever with your left hand (you have to pull harder than you think). Use the friction from the carabiner (attached to a leg loop or lineman’s loop ) with your right hand (brake hand).
FWIW, I usually skip the carabiner and just hold the line with my right hand, but I’ve done it enough to be able to know how hard to pull the lever to descend at a controllable speed.
I have been using an ATC and VT prussic above it. Do you back it up with some kind of friction hitch?
Camp saver says that madrock has discontinued the safeguard. Has anyone heard this or did the saddle guys just buy them all?
I checked with MadRock the other day too as I was trying to find out if a newer version was coming out. The Safeguard is not being discontinued - I think CampSaver is just not going to be stocking MadRock products anymore. Actually, since they are selling everything below minimum advertised pricing (MAP) they won't be allowed to sell MadRock either way.Camp saver says that madrock has discontinued the safeguard. The safeguard doesn't have a spring to open it when tension is released on the rope. It stays locked somewhat better than the lifeguard. Is there an advantage of the safeguard over the lifeguard?
Yes, for our uses we should use the Safeguard. It is the same as the Lifeguard without the spring so it catches immediately. Is there an advantage of the safeguard over the lifeguard?
