Maine Black Bear From A Saddle

Alright guys, Maine bear season over bait opens a week from today. I have 3 or 4 bears hitting my bait in SOUTHERN Maine, which is a feat in itself. Ranging from around 80lbs up to 250lbs (250 is the average harvest weight statewide).

My grandfather has a horseshoe up his azz at 80 years old and somehow also has 3 bears on his bait, one of potentially breaking the Maine archery boar record of 540lbs. This things head barely fits in a 55 gallon drum.

If things shape up I may be able to sweet talk him into swapping bait for the night because he cannot draw a bow back anymore. Either way, if the boys and myself put some bears down next week, who wants to see some bears drop by bows out of a saddle on the ol YouTube?!View attachment 32886

Send it to the pump house! Id love to watch the footage if you get'em.

If you dont k ow about it, check out bear hunting magazine - they have awesome content

I know it doesn't sound like it would but I have seen it first hand. Shot was around 40 yards. Now the bear was never found so I cannot say for sure it stopped it. We found chunks of bone and fat with no signs of the bullet getting through to vitals. Even hunted the rest of the season and never heard yotes or saw birds in the area.

I wish I could post videos, I have some cool footage of him stomping around the base of my tree after a sow refused his advances

Awesome opportunity! I hope you get one!

Couple years ago I was on a vet hunt for bears in northern Maine, had a bear stomp around my stand for 2 hours, pretty much every clock position from 6 to 11, then something happened and he took off, just heard a grunt as he was leaving! Never saw him, but I’ll never forget that afternoon!

Good luck!

Good luck! My black bear season was cut short by the arrival of this bastard. I dont imagine any black bears will stick around with him in the area. 20200903_075928.jpg20200903_075647.jpg20200903_075805.jpg20200903_075951.jpg

Yes it is a grizzly. It came into a bear bait I had running with 3 black bears hitting it regularly. He's trying to reach a honey pail in these pics. I haven't seen the black bears that were there since he made an appearance.
