Making "Is it warm?" More Objective

It’s that friggin humidity that makes the difference…bone chilling cold
30° tomorrow with only a 6mph wind. But that 81% humidity does seep in. 24° realfeel doesn't seem to do it justice. I know out in Yellowstone it was in the 30s up in the mountains and we were playing in jeans and a t-shirt on vacation as kids.

I wish I could get exposure once or twice a year to @Vtbow's temps, just so Alabama would feel balmy by comparison.

3 degrees here right now in WNY. Its calm and quiet outside and sure its cold.... but I agree, humidity has a lot to do with it. I hear ya @Vtbow we have our woodstove cranking and it feels good inside.... my neck is sweating as I sit here in my recliner typing this. Wood heat best heat in my opinion but a lot of work, dirty and and I'm already thinking about how much wood I have to cut, split, stack and haul everywhere again for next heating season!!!:fearscream:

As much as I gripe about it being 90 on New Years lol, I still say y’all can keep that single digit mess up there  I think my nose suffered frost bite from reading these posts lol

Not to derail this thread... .I agree, I was looking at some stuff recently on sale, some folks here on SH.com were getting some as it was 50% off and it looked like good quality but in my experience here.... it said late season and here is no way that is late season garb for where I hunt. I'd freeze my goosebumped white butt right off in that stuff. I picked up an IWOM this year late in the season and wore it once in mid December, the temps were in the 20's at the time decent wind speed. It worked very well and the best thing is, I just wore my typical early to mid season garb under it to the tree then once in it, was very warm the entire time. If I plan an all day rut sit I will need a few extra layers underneath (I think) but just like mittens are always warmer than gloves.... a sleeping bag style suit will always be warmer than bigs and coats where your core is separated from your appendages.

One other thing I started to do more this year is incorporate good ole' fashioned wool into my clothing. I wore old military wool pants a lot this year and an uninsulated Asbell Wool anorak as a topper. So I started with two base layers (a thin poly pro against my skin then a medium thin merino wool on top of that then a regular carhartt hoody and my wool anorak over that. My pants were either my military field pants or like I said before, medium heavy military wool pants. Besides the warmth, its very very quiet in the woods. If you go through briars or high stem count areas, you sound like a deer slipping through. Any other material just seems very loud. I also incorporate the cheap military fleece bibs over my base layers but under my final layers and then if its any colder I will now go to my IWOM with just less layers underneath. Most likely my base layers, field pants, hoody and wool anorak and then the IWOM over top that.

Yeah, it's frustrating when they try to say it's because different people have different cold tolerances. We do, but do we really? Sleeping bag manufacturers give temp ratings.

I generally assume that early, mid, and late apply to the same places with October lulls...not Abalammer.
I completely agree. I live in the Deep South but hunt Missouri / Iowa area. 20F in louisiana and I want to stay inside. 20F in the Midwest and it doesn’t seem to bother me.
I put the table below and use it with the feels like temperature of the area. This way I never overdress for the walk in and sweat. I then layer up once on stand.

My wife says I am a nerd for having an excel file with my clothing setup, but I am not freezing my a$$ anymore.
