Mathews V3

Yea, you don’t need any special adapters. Mathews puts attachments on the limb tips specifically so it fits into any press. They’ve included those on every flagship going back to the Monster line, I believe

You guys toting a press into the backcountry? The last bowstring that needed fixing, we were 2.5 hrs off of blacktop. We were able to do it with a Bowmaster portable. Can you do that with the new ones? If not, it’s a big no go. Pretty sure they have to be pressed in a specific way.

Pretty sure they can be as long as you have the wide limb adapter. I have no plans to get rid of my bowmaster anytime soon

Oh nice, I’ve never owned a Mathews so I wouldn’t know. I have an XPress so I can press beyond parallel limb bows. I have pressed my hoyt defined with an Lca but we had to strap it down so it didn’t jump out

I just got off the phone with a gentleman at LCA. I called, instead of watching nine thousand post about pressing the V3. He told me that they have not had their hands on a V3, but they have spoken with Mathews engineers and have been told there is no issue with pressing the V3s in a LCA press.
He and I talked a little, he said no adapters should be needed and if it weren't for the half moon blocks on the limb tips of the Mathews that an adapter might be needed. He suggested to tilt the fingers of the press in as far as possible which makes sense.

Have you watched a vid, etc on the Mathews string change? You have to remove the axles and the cams. I have a Bowmaster also and have changed 5 strings with it, but I would be intimidated doing a new Mathews with one. Just a heads up in case you weren't aware and this influences any bow buying decisions.

I was surprised last year to see the longer axle to axle had a slightly slower IBO speed. I see this year with the V3 that is no longer the case. I have a VXR31.5 and love it but it's slightly too long for me for hunting but the VXR28 was just too steep of a string angle for my DL of 29.5. I'm going to have to at least shoot these and see if they fixed the above issues for me.

Never got to shoot anything but the traverse (im lefty so thats how my life goes) but man that was a smooth bow. Im sure the new ones are nice too with the long risers. Sometimes im kinda mad i went with the SR6 instead. but its a really good bow n pushes my rebar arrows a little better i think. Id like to try one of the new ones next to my sr6 n see if its worths swappin out. My hoyt carbon element is still the best shootin bow i own but i quit hunting with it for some dumb reason. Just like buying nnew toys i guess

So for a retirement gift, My wife said I could get a new bow since I had to sell my Triax a couple years ago. I went to my local shop in October and the walls were bare and they told me that I could wait about a week and they would have more in or I could wait a month for the new Mathews to come out. I decided to wait and went in the day they came out and shot a VXR 28 they had set up while they were putting the V3 together. The VXR was real nice, but I noticed the bottom of bow kicked forward a little after the shot. once the V3 was assembled, I shot it and it didn't move in my hand at all and the draw cycle was smother as well. I decided that was what I wanted and I bought it. No issues so far. I decided to go with a heavier arrow this time as well. I am shooting Easton Axis 5mm with a 75gr insert and 125 gr Montecs. Total arrow weight is 530gr. Really excited about this new bow.

Congrats, sounds like it will be a great set up

Well I went to shop today to sight in and check everything and BS lol. Shot new arrows through paper to double check tune. All good! Got 20 dialed in on the HHA Optimizer then stepped out back to find 60. All good again. I will say this much the heavy arrows really pack a wallop at that distance. Got serious penetration. Went back inside to run through chrono and am happy to say that the new V3 set at 66 lbs and 28.5 in draw with 530 grain arrow is firing at 260 FPS. Very happy. Yes I know it’s slow for some but I will trade penetration for speed any day of the week.

You have a neat opportunity with that setup. At 260 FPS, you can see the impact up close and personal if you want since you can just jog down to where the deer is while your arrow is in flight! :tearsofjoy:

A slow pass through is better than a fast miss. I used to be a speed guy. 500 spine arrows, actual feather vanes, 85 grain broadhead for a total arrow weight of 380 grains. I thought it was great until I didn’t get pass throughs. Not gonna be a problem now.

So I am looking for a new bow and have been considering the V3. I shot a lot while younger and about 6 years ago got back into archery. My first modern bow was a PSE Brute Force. Bow has been great but itching to upgrade. I know there are a lot of Mathews fans out there. Realistically what am I gaining from the Entery Level Brute Force to the Mathews V3? I just want to hear what other that have upgraded from an entry level setup to a flagship model.

I shoot long range rifle competions and understand you do get what you pay for. Unlike rifles bows seem to have kind of Diminishing returns. Currently Shooting 65 Lbs at 28 inch draw. Arrows are 375 grains. Looking to go to 75 Lbs with arrows around 500 Grains.

I know the Bruteforce was not a high end Bow, but for what it offered at the time it was hard to beat. Im going up in draw weight and arrow wieght for this setup and plan on putting new strings on the PSE and using my light arrows to shoot 3D with.

I shot that exact bow before I bought my VXR this year . The PSE will kill just as many deer . But the new Mathews are sweet looking, shoot faster, smoother, and hold better. Do you “need” to upgrade? Nope! But if you want to and are looking for a awesome bow then I promise you won’t be disappointed. Idk if it was a new confidence thing or not but I started shooting better groups with the Mathews and I could definitely tell a world’s difference going from basic to flagship but at the end of the day if your PSE ain’t broke then the only reason to upgrade is cause you want to . I’m glad I did

New bows are overrated if you’re looking for some kind of magic bullet. On the other hand if your current setup is 10 years old you’ll notice a pretty drastic difference in vibration and smoothness of the draw cycle. You can save a lot of money by getting last years flagship bow already setup for cheaper than you can buy a new bare bow. I bought a new vxr earlier this year and I love it but I’m sure I would have been happy with last years model because I was shooting an entry level PSE that I bought used 12 years ago.

Definitely nothing wrong with a new setup though if you have the money, feels good to treat yourself to something new.

Like SWVA said I dont need to upgrade but I want to. Not looking for any magic bullets for sure. My PSE shoots stellar groups and Rocks it out to 100 yards with no issues target Practice.

Mainly I am looking for something I can setup and go hunt anything in North America. Little more draw weight and heavier arrows. Never owned a high end bow, I don't upgrade very often so this may be the last Compound bow I buy. I also Shoot recurve and will be getting a long bow soon.

Well I am not rich by any means, but I am also not afraid to spend the money on good gear.

Buy it man! %95 of these dudes on here talk crap about em but deep down they all drool over it haha . It’s your money and your hobby . If you want it for no other reason then it looks cool then that’s all that matters . You’ll love it

Honest opinion, go shoot it and several others as well as your bow. The V3 and last year's VXR come with two different axle to axle offerings. V3 comes in 27 and 31 inch ATA and the VXR comes in 28 and 31.5 inch ATA. I went with the V3 in 27 because I hunt from a ground blind frequently and like the compact size. To me the 27 V3 shoots and feels better in my hand over the VXR 28. Once you have shot a couple different bows, buy the one that feels the best to you.
