If anybody is using this and more tech savvy than myself please let me know, this exactly what I have been looking for, up to date satellite imagery, if only I could get an overlay of topo lines or roads at least, I hope that makes sense, if somebody can figure this out please post how, thanks!

I am new to this one as well. It was mentioned the other day in another thread. The poster said he used it in the winter to see thick spots. What you are looking for is exactly what I was looking for also. I also wanted historical imagery since full summer green up is not really as helpful. My plan was to use this site in the fall when the leaves are off. Hopefully someone will chime in on this. There may be a way to capture the image and overlay it to another site like Google Earth or Caltopo.

These options may be available with the subscription. The base plan seems to be 25 Euros per month billed annually or 300 Euros ($315 US) and it goes up from there. I did find the historical data however.

When you click that link, instead of hitting the “open Sentinel Playground” green button go to the top of page and click on Explore, and then EO Browser, next hit the start exploring button, this will bring up a map much easier to use with my Ipad, I should be all set now,

Thanks, I'll check that out.

Most of what you look at on OnX, google earth, etc is aerial photography and not satellite imagery. Commercially available (most Landsat) satellite imagery, at least in the past, had 30 meter resolution (very coarse compared to photos). If it only has satellite imagery, then I would not find it as useful for digital scouting as aerials.

I'd make sure that a free ESRI viewer download and a trip to your state's and the USGS GIS clearinghouse would not accomplish the same thing for free.

Most likely, Sentinel doesn't own any satellites. They just compile data, a lot of which is probably available free.

Yeah, I posted about it in one of the other mapping posts. I use it for finding mountain laurel and rhododendron in new areas. Images are uploaded 3 times a week. I just find a cloud free day in the winter and those types of vegetation will be noticed.

This is free too, I agree the imagery is not as good as ONX, I just need to know basic up to date info, the logging has been so active lately some of my spots were flat last year when I showed up and what a mess that was, I had no idea.

Good deal, if free, then I might check it out also.

On Google Earth, there's a slider up top and you can go back in time. I use it to go back in time and see where there were clearcuts. Also, I pick winter images without leaves and snow on the ground and that helps find edges and such.

You're giving away too many secrets. Next you'll be telling people they can overlay KML files of property tax maps for free.

How do you pick winter images? The versions I've used have only had images from about May thru October maybe.

let's make sure we're looking at same button

it's the clock with the green back arrow

it's the luck of the draw for your area what images are available, it depends upon when the aerial photo planes flew over that area

if they are on a schedule then certain areas might not get winter images (just guessing) or maybe some areas are more or less safe to fly in winter and that adjusts things

but google also might not be showing everything available

i would also google

aerial photos

or something similar and look for your area

i forget the names of the agency programs that did/do these, and will try to find some search terms

this will get you started hopefully, most images can probably be downloaded and then imported into google earth (with maybe some steps in there....things like this aren't often easy)

Yeah I don't have that on the Google Earth Pro version that I have now. I did however have it on the original version I used to have. That's what I was talking about when I said May to October.

I've been using EO Browser off Sentinel Hub for several years for "macro" level scouting. Think bigger picture things that will show up in ~1 to 5 meter pixels. You're not looking for trails, but new logging, fuel reduction projects, wild or prescribed fire areas, crops planted or harvested or how green do the fields look, you may even have heard there was a severe storm and tornado in the area and you can pick up the brown veg signature a couple days later..... If you are more than a couple hours from where you hunt, the fact that these sat pix are done 1-3 times a week may give you an insight that you may not otherwise know about until you get to the property in daylight....

Here's a site that I use for work pretty regularly. It's one of the more user friendly sites I've found for aerial imagery. https://earthexplorer.usgs.gov/

Simply draw a box around your area of interest. Click on the "data sets" tab. Select "aerial imagery" and then "hi res Ortho" and it will give you all of the USGS imagery for that area. The age of the imagery will vary as well as the time of year but, it can be a valuable resource

You should. I'm using a May 2022 version right now, and it is still there. They've had that feature for as long as I can remember, but maybe you need to update your version if it is very old.
