Like someone else said earlier, "I piss more than $15 a year away on vending machines at work" It's not that big of deal. It takes time effort and money to run a web site. My only concern is that the one posting the classifieds will take a little hit by not having as many eyes on there post. Perhaps you can only post a classified if you pay the fee? Yet if you didn't, you can still access and purchase something.

I need to come up with my own forum that I sell at 15$ a year. At 5 thousand members that's 75 grand. A year. Are moderators getting compensated for their work?

BTW no one get butt hurt. I'll gladly pay the money. Just sounds like a nice little payday. I could buy so many saddles.

I bet more like 100 members pay.

Unbelievable - so many people actually think they are entitled to free information & service. I do not plan on paying the 15 bucks simply because I don't sale my used stuff and the contest really was for fun and jostling for me.

Red built this site before many of the current members even knew what a saddle was. Have a little gratitude - there was a time you couldn't buy the info that is shared here for free. Stop your damn whining and complaining all the time or go back and camp out at Archery Talk.

I don't blame Red one bit..... heck if I was him I would charge that for general use of the site (which I would then pay) and retire, live off this site, and go hunting more. Red really should offer some custom Saddle Hunter Kleenexes in the store for all the whining that goes on here lately.

I'm going to join to help the site. But, it would be nice if you had to be a member to SELL on the classifieds but anyone could buy. It kind of limits the benefits to the seller if only members can see their stuff. Not sure if there is a way to do this...but I think it would help.

$15.00 a year works out to $1.25 a month or about $0.04 cents a day.

I don't know anyone who is so broke they can't afford that. ESPECIALLY saddle hunters lol!

I don’t know how many of us will pay but it sure won’t be 5,000! If you sell on eBay, you lose $15 every sale between PayPal and eBay fees. There is no better place to buy and sell saddle gear.

I like that idea. A usage fee sort of thing and still reach out to all the members

The $15 membership allows you to use the classified section and enter the hunting competition. You can still use every other feature of the site. Why would you leave? Why be angry? So what if you can’t sell or buy. There are lots of other sites. There are no other sites with the information available here. That information is still free.

Yeah this is the sad part about a lot of people this day and age
We will pay 15 dollars at Steak ‘n Shake for a grease ball that you will flush in a few hours later , but people want to complain about $15 to the squirrel when he’s been eating every curveball and issue and buying servers and everything else for year.
I’ll pay it gladly because I have gained knowledge and enjoy bouncing things off of you guys. I think he should charge $15/year for all of it, but he’s so kind he’s only adding it to the classifieds and contest portion .......
see ya we don’t need negativity or bad attitudes
The worst part is you don’t understand what people are telling you and probably won’t understand what I have said here. Not trying to be rude, but it gets overwhelming. If you can’t spare going out to eat once this week for a year of this site then we’re better off .

I'd actually like to see it go WAY further and make all content available only to members. Maybe a free trial to start and then you must be a member. I fear charging for just the classifies will do nothing but diminish the content in the classified section.

I think the intent is also to curb scammers which I beleive this will help some. I’m little flabbergasted at some of the bashing by some members I’ve looked up to. Red and other moderators have been taking care of us behind the scenes pro bono for years it’s time we do our part for the community. As stated already this is a small price to pay for the wealth of knowledge gained from this site. Sad how some people expect everything for free but I don’t wanna talk politics...

Why? What is the problem you have identified that this would solve? I'm not being sarcastic, I am genuinely curious.

I've only been around for just over a year. Saddle hunting has changed the way I hunt. What is even more valuable than learning a new way to sit in a tree is the hundreds... maybe thousands of things I've learnt since joining this site that didnt even cross my mind before then.
Safety! #1 - I use to hunt climbing stands, hang ons with nothing. Ever! Now I wont even look at a tree without my saddle on.
DIY ideas - building platforms, tree drills, hell even learning how to sew to build or modify my gear
Knowledge - started following all the self filters on YouTube. Took a little from each, DIY sportsman, The Hunting Public, Beast, Tether'd, Hunt Appalachia, and on and on and on. Took some info from each, changed the way I think of deer and deer habitat to make me a more rounded hunter .
Gear - some stuff i never even knew existed. Ropeman's, WE steps, Aerohunter, Tether'd, Squirrel Steps, OCB, tubular webbing, different climbing ropes, prussics, all kinds of knots, splicing, ROS, platforms, and on and on and on.

Take my money!

I've never been part of such a great forum and if it sends all the facebook googans packing all the better.

The problem is the financial burden on the site owner, I feel that only charging for classifies isn't going to generate that much money (maybe that's not true, only time will tell). My gut says it will just make the classified section worthless.

For me, it's the principle of the matter. I refuse to pay for the type of content that is free on every other online forum and don't want to be part of a community that gets nickle and dimed. The model for profitable forums has been laid out and copied hundreds of times over. Why you choose to reinvent the wheel and piss people off is beyond me. Later boys, I'm out.

Edit: Charging for premium memberships wouldn't be as big of a deal if you were providing some additional value to make it worth while. When you tell people to pay for what they have been getting for free, you're going to get push back.
