I hope facebook never becomes the place to go. If so I am screwed cause I aint got it and never will. I dont think this will be any nail in the coffin. I just dont understand the whole logic though. But its not my site so I dont have to I guess:)

The logic is pretty simple. He wanted to keep all of the forums that contribute to people learning about saddle hunting free and open to the public but, he had to start bringing in revenue to keep the site viable. Why not charge for access to the one forum that doesn't necessarily contribute to saddle hunting knowledge but is there for members to benefit monetarily for themselves?

This isn't a new idea, it came from other forums that do something similar. And for the people who think Facebook is the "go to" place for saddle hunting info, well.....please stay safe.

I am out see you guys
I'm going to chime in here...this site is refreshing to say the least...I've havent seen or read one poor comment or a lick of jealousy amongst the members. Go to the Michigan forum and just read the arguing, bickering, and shameful name calling. I'm proud to be a member or even a paying member to Saddle Hunter. I love the sharing, comradery, and selfless attitudes of its members. I proud to say there are christain men blessing one another, giving equipment away, and looking out for one another. 15 dollars is a drop in the bucket, I'm going to encourage everyone here to step up and join. We as a collective group desire our current friendships but also the ones in front of us...let's keep it going

Guys its $15. I just spent that much at taco bell. Yes that's a lot of food at the bell but I'm a growing boy lol.

Good luck to your toilet. (And I say that as a person who sometimes eats Taco Bell).

This is just dumb. Every other forum asks for donations in return for badges, customized features, personal messages and ad free viewing. I havent seen one, until this point, that requires payment in exchange for classified ads. Looks like facebook will be the place to be from here on out. Foot traffic will certainly decrease because of this. There are other ways to make revenue off this forum.

Plenty of places do that. I belong to 2 of them, both gun related.

Really? Its ridiculous to have ads on a forum for non paying members? It's crazy to think that every App on your phone uses this as a blueprint. How many forums have you participated in? It's crazy to think that the one major reason people come back to this site is now being used to make money. Sounds more like a punishment...
Facebook has already become the go to place for saddle info. This will put the last nail in the coffin.
For whom? I don't have a FB account, and there are plenty of other folks here who don't as well. I'll gladly pay the $15, if it keeps the riff raff out of the classifieds, money well spent.

Right. Maybe not the last nail but It's pretty simple. Dont remove features from a site and ask for money to see them again. You add features to the site and ask for donations. Many would have donated and stayed.
Look at it as you got a free year membership just for signing up.

As other have pointed out, unless you're buying/selling, the membership is completely unnecessary. You'll still have access to all the knowledge database and the new saddle hunting developments from this innovative group of guys without contributing.

If you want to buy/sell, spend the $15 and make it up in your transactions. IMO its a small fee to be able to transact in one of the most complete saddle hunting gear market places.

The $15 is obviously not about getting rich and I respect what was probably a very hard decision. From a relative newcomer, the heart and soul put into this site is obvious. I’m a member of another forum that takes a small percent when you sell something in their classifieds. This isn’t uncommon for niche groups.

Someone’s gotta help support these group’s, would you rather it be owned by its users or some paying company that could screw things up?

$15 a year to access this much info, have access to the classifieds AND participate in the challenges? Hell, I pay that much a month to watch a couple of crappy shows. TAKE MY MONEY.

Assuming 5000 members, and if 50% of them become "members", thats $37,500 A YEAR to maintain the site, administer and moderate, maintain and pay server rental/space, web content costs...aint no one making a profit here, much less a living. I say its high time that this happens.

Exactly! Great description of the site and members. The ones that get it will join to show appreciation for the quality of information and the atmosphere of saddlehunter.com

Good riddance to anyone who: A - thinks this is profit driven, B - thinks its a bad value proposition for anyone buying and selling in the classifieds, C - thinks anyone cares about facebook, D - is too selfish to have come here and discovered in GREAT detail how to set up and hunt from a saddle, and feel that 15.00 is too high to pay for shortening that learning curve, E - recognizes that it in no way prevents you from being a member of the site and getting said information for FREE, or F - thinks that having misaligned incentives with Saddle Vendors sponsoring the site is a good idea.

Let's say 1000 members pony up and pay for the PRIVILIGE of MAKING MONEY or SAVING MONEY in the classifieds, and to enter a FUN contest with FRIENDS. I'd be willing to bet that money is peanuts compared to what Red has spent in time building and running this place.

I'll gladly cover the 15.00 for any member who has CONTRIBUTED POSITIVE VALUE to the site, and can't afford the fee. PM me and we can discuss. For all the rest of you complaining - you really need to do a reassessment of your situation. Nothing is owed to you.

For those claiming Facebook is the go to for saddle sales must be in a different page than me.

1. It’s Facebook.
2. Nothing but low ballers
3. And personal shoppers commenting on where they can buy your crap for x amount and why you should drop your price and cover shipping.

I had someone accuse me of trying to earn money by flipping sticks. Like shipping large freaking pieces of metal around the country is profitable.

Sorry for the rant. I’ll pay the $15. Hell I just bought fifteen dollars worth of rope that I’ll probably never use.

Btw how many squirrel steps should I send for a membership?

Got to say, i don't know why anyone would get bent about this! It is not like you cant still use the site. I would not say i made money from my classified sales but i recouped plenty from them and smooth transactions every time...$15 is nothing for its use if you so CHOOSE to...and if you need a prize for having a kicka$% deer season, I feel sorry for you!
