Mid Layer Piece

I have the catalyst jacket, solitude jacket, and solitude vest. I don’t think it is your intention to layer the catalyst with the solitude but just in case…..

In my experience the catalyst jacket does not layer well with the solitude jacket. It’s great with the solitude vest but I did not like it under the solitude jacket.

The catalyst is a good stand alone kit. Here in KY I wore the catalyst bibs and jacket probably 70% of the season. In my opinion it’s perfect from 45-65° by either adding or removing layers underneath.

What are your thought on the catalyst jacket and bibs? I have read several reviews stating that they are not like typical softshells. That they don’t block any wind. Which would be the only reason I would get them.
I had been contemplating getting the catalyst vest. I was looking for something with sleeves but, I thought that it may fit my needs wearing it over my merino base layers and a cheap fleece vest, but if the catalyst doesn’t block any wind, I am not interested.

I cant recommend the Sitka celsius midi jacket enough...very warm and versatile not wind proof though. Perfect for under a vest or under a good jacket when temp drops. I wear it a lot with a hoodie under neath and a vest over top of it. Pricey but one of my favorite pieces of gear I've bought yet. Hope this helps.

My father has the catalyst jacket, pants, and vest and absolutely loves them... Granted its a big step up from what he use to wear..but he loves the stuff!! The past two seasons I've never heard him complain about getting cold. He wears the catalyst stuff down into the low 40s It is great quality stuff. He also has the warmer stuff I believe its the solitude line if you have any questions of sizing and quality questions let me know!!

I have the solitude set and love it.

I’m a little late on this but oh well. Hey man, So ILL hunter here. For the last few seasons I’ve been in the same predicament or search for the right in between piece. I have early season dialed with the Klamath hoody +merino base layers. I can add the kiln base layer underneath, and an additional 150ish merino layer to get me well into Oct, but have endured a lot of cold sits. I got a wind proof cabelas soft shell vest and that has gotten me even further, especially useful for quick changes in the saddle as the evening cools off, or to delayer as it warms up. Still, there were multiple shivering sits wishing I had one more layer without adding bulk. I just picked up a Kuiu Kenai jacket for dirt cheap used (eBay) and I think it’s the perfect answer. I have the solitude set but it’s bulky enough that I don’t care to bring it unless it’s below 45 and windy. The reduction in bulk and quick to throw on means I can layer kiln, Klamath, Kenai with a WP vest and not feel like the Michelin man. Super functional, unbulky, quiet saddle set up for pre and into the rut.
Where do you hunt in So ILL?
