Minimalist Flexible Boot Thread

Lems Boulder Summit First Impressions:

They are very tough for me to slide my foot into. I hope that changes overtime as well.

I’ve had my originals for 2 years now and they are still pretty stiff getting on. They loosen up after I’ve had them on for a bit but they tighten back up when I go to put them on the next time. If I get these new ones I’m tempted to get a half size bigger to help with that and being able to wear thicker socks.

I have the original Boulders in a 10 and they fit great. I picked up the Outlanders in 10, per their sizing guide and they are considerably tighter.

Given these new Boulders have the Outlanders base/soles, sizing up might not be a bad idea. These new ones seem like they could be a perfect mesh if sized correctly. I really like the fit on the Boulders and hate the tread and vise versa on the Outlanders.

If I remember correctly, Lems did recommend sizing up with regard to the Boulders and waterproof Boulders before this new boot was introduced.

To be honest, I also have had to exchange my share of boots due to me ordering the wrong size and I don't want to steer you wrong.

Yeah, I have the waterproof leather version to clarify. I changed out the insole in them which definitely made them fit a little tighter too. I think a half size up would be better if I get the new ones. I’ve still noticed the leather being stiff though and making it more difficult to get the shoes on. I’m taking a good look at those Rocky’s someone posted. The caveat about having a heel that raisins made has me reconsidering the Boulder boot.

I would not get a half size up based on my fit. Lems says they run true to size and I agree.

I think they would benefit from hooks instead of eyes for the top two sets of laces like keens and most hikers have.

Does anyone make an eyelet to hook conversion? Patent worthy idea here!

This season I am running the Altra Lone Peak All Wthr Low. I actually only got them for my first back country hunt in Wyoming. They performed well, but I also find them coming apart a bit too soon. It was hard use though so maybe I am being unfair. The laces kept coming undone and that was frustrating so I got a set of BOA laces to try. Anyway, I haven't made it to the white tail woods this year but I am planning to bring the Altras. I typically run an even more minimal shoe, so I am curious how the thicker sole of the Altra will help with foot warmth.

If the weather is right, I also want to try these:

I feel like these will be awesome for stalking as I feel like a wood ninja. But haven't hunted in these yet, so we shall see.

I have the Altra LP boot and love it for dry conditions, the waterproofing on one boot leaked within the first month of easy use tho. If it’s dry out these are my boot of choice. Heavy few will soak them tho once that waterproofing breaks

I love Altra shoes and wear them at work and to run in as well. They are comfortable but not the most durable.

I have a pair of Lone Peak Mid from a few years ago and don't count on them for being warm in cold sits or waterproof. If you're on a stand good old boot covers/blankets etc might get the call and work with a warmer inside.

To the top.

Any of these things designed to get wet but dry really fast?....like a "jungle boot" I guess is somethings comparable

The waterproof 1s have a membrane like gortex?

I would assume the nylon version of those Lems would dry moderately fast. Definitely quicker than the leather ones.

Post #25 speaks of a model you might be interested in.

Quick update: The Altras worked great as a whitetail hunting shoe. I found them great for hiking into spots and then the thicker soles (thicker than I normally run) offered a bit more warmth.

The sock shoes were in fact amazing for stalking. Even if the ground is a little wet these guys were good. I imaginge it is a lot like hunting in mocassins. Anyway, for $20 or so they're definitly worth a try!

How did you rectify your situ with the boot coming apart? Did you go with the BOA in lieu of laces? How did you like em? And what flavor of sock? Sole on them?

The Altras did not continue to deteriorate, so I didn't address it. I did not like the BOAs on these but I changed to a cord lock, like so:

Yeah the sock shoes are those goofy looking ones with rubber soles on them. There are several brans that all seem about the same.

I would rather try some of those other options but they more than I'm willing to pay. I'm not jumping right on it but when I do get them and beat them up a little I'll check back in with an update.....off to the boot insulators thread to learn about them
