Tomorrow ill do some testing. I no stick climb with this platform, seems a cleat makes 1 sticking way easier. This is Shafer 500lb version, held with 1/4-20 3" stainless bolts. I drilled 2 new holes to keep rope load in same place as factory roughly. Rope is 1/4" winch full bury, after going around post. No brummel splice, don't see the need with full bury.

Very interesting! I would like to do this to a couple platforms.

I was wondering about this mod when I saw your 1-platforming climbing approach. Nice work. Excited to hear how it goes.

I'm a little concerned to test this in freezing temps. These are plastic and made for boats, warm Temps. I'd hate to fail it due to wrong type of material for late season, yet it might be fine for early season.

32f here, went out for a few minutes to test it. I didn't leave it for hours. Initial thoughts, I think I need a different method of rope hook up. I tried it on 2 trees and both times im getting a twisting force. I can manually override it some, but standing on the post and toe lifting the platform it sets a little crooked. This pic i set it by hand. Tree isn't straight, but you can see the issue. I think a bigger loop girth hitched around the cleat and bar might solve this issue. Cleat held me toe camming (probably north of 240lbs)

i think it's @ShooterMike that posted elsewhere about rope attachment methods for the hawk sticks with a cam cleat and has his attached the way you're thinking of switching to. seems like it'll fix it (from my couch lol). you can test your theory by moving the rope to above the cam cleat- if you're getting twisting in the other direction then, you've got your confirmation.

Are you setting the rope tightly and then calming down the platform to make it tight?

I wouldn't calm down the platform. I want it to be aggressive when it grabs the tree.

Not sure I'm happy with rope angles, but this route does fix the twisting issue.

Why not drill a hole left to right centered behind the cleat and run the rope through like this.

I smoothed the edges with a file and used some webbing for protection.

Guess I'm not real sure about strength reduction. Camming a platform puts a much higher load than setting a stick.

Fair enough. Didn’t really think about that. I had the same twisting issue with my stick.

You could maybe bolt the cleat over top of your rope. Use a washer or 2 (or spacer of some sort) between the back of the cleat and the post to give some relief for the rope.

And now I’m out of ideas haha.

Separate idea- longer bolts, length of steel or aluminum with two holes drilled in it, use it like a washer on the back and pass the loop of the rope around this dual washer piece on the back of the stick before tightening it down.

Use a versa button on the back of the stick attached to one of the bolts holding the cam on. Only issue may be the bolt size.

I think another option is eye bolt installed through the side inline with center of cleat.
