Mississippi saddle hunters

There are some really good wildlife management areas that have draw hunts that limits pressure on them. The better ones are more along western part of the state
More like ALL the good ones, lol.

Yockanookany and Black Prairie have quality deer and they aren't in western part of the state.

I’m from Louisiana live just 15 minutes from Natchez MS I deer hunt in Louisiana and turkey hunt on the occasion up around port Gibson and Vicksburg.

Howdy! I’m in Vancleave and going on my third year saddle hunting. Started with Kestrel and now have a Recon.

Pastor Ken I’m about 40 miles from where you’ll be stationed, be good to sit and share a coffee with you when you get down here.

South MS have several WMA’s as mentioned
But they are tough hunting have less deer density and are pressured. But you can kill them if you work at it.

Better hunting up above central MS.

That would be fun. Let’s do it! I’m still waiting on my orders so I don’t know my timeline yet. I might like to take some sailors/soldiers hunting if there’s interest.

From Magnolia. Live in McComb. Hunt in Magnolia, Liberty, McComb, and Homochitto. Saddle for 3 seasons.

Well fellas, my deployment is wrapping up soon and I'll be headed to Gulfport.
I have a question about flood & mud. I've seen Mississippi hunting videos on YouTube where the water is rising rapidly. And I've read online that some of the WMAs flood frequently. Should I be concerned that the water could come up so quickly that I get my car (2007 Subaru Outback) bogged down before I can get out of the woods? Should I be trying to lift it and put a winch on it? Or is all that unnecessary? I'm not going to be looking for mud, and I have no interest in mud bogging. I just don't want to get stuck.

Pastor Ken,

Not my experience, if the WMA is open and below flood stage it shouldn’t rise in that rapid fashion. Biggest concerns would be if you were hunting flooded timber not to allow your access in become isolated by any rising waters.

Good luck down there Ken!

The WMA officials are normally pretty good about shutting down impassable roads and areas if the flood waters are high and unsafe. So I wouldn’t worry about it.

If you’ll be in Gulfport I’m just up the road from you in Saucier, feel free to shoot me a PM anytime if you have any questions.

Meridian here. First season in saddle, just getting my system completed. Tested it this morning and couldn’t believe how quickly I was able to get up and down the tree! Looking forward to hunting out of it over the next couple of days!

I'm right across the line from you in Butler Alabama

I’m home (Gulfport Naval Base) from deployment!
We have a house full of boxes. But most of the essentials are unpacked and set up. Looking forward to hunting season. Glad I have a little while to get ready before the first good snow.

Live in New Orleans but I hunt just north of Meadville, right on the Homochito River and National Forest. This is my first year attempting saddle hunting and picked up 4 LWCG doubles, a Latitude Method 2 and waiting on and OOAL Ridge Runner platform

Pastor Steve,

There’s a charity 3D archery event this coming Saturday in Moselle, MS (North of Hattiesburg)

If you shoot 3D love to meet you. A buddy and me shoot Trad and plan to attend if at all possible. I’ll be in a white Tacoma, look us up if you decide to go or PM me for more info.

I'm registering for the MS draw hunts. Just want to verify my understanding.
True or false: I can register for all the hunts (except handicapped) and I only have to pay if I get drawn and accept. If I get drawn for a day I have to work, I can pass on it.
