Mitch Rompola

Absolutely. I've picked up bits and pieces that I'll apply to my own hunting from each of the dozen bowhunters profiled in the book. Like Troy Pottenger said on the podcast mentioned above, I keep coming back to Mitch's chapter. He was (and probably still is) as fanatical as they come about whitetails. Makes me feel like I have a chance at smashing some world record monster in the swamps of South Jersey lol. And when I do, this site will probably be the only place I post it

In response to KYHunter post #9

I used my crossbow from the saddle with no issues. It is harder to maneuverer, but not by much, and you don't have to worry about drawing motion like a compound because its already cocked. There are a few videos about saddle hunting with crossbow. Of course smaller profile models are easier to use in saddle, but that can be said for tree stands too.

Man. That last podcast on rompola has really blown the wind out of my sails. Anyone else listen to it?
No what are you talking about???? I need to listen!!!! Links or something dude. Thanks!!

I've heard stories from NJ residents that come up here for work about giant swamp dwellers they've encountered down there...

Yeah I listened. I admit I haven't put a lot of effort into thinking about the Rompola buck but, I always leaned towards it was most likely real. Like they said in podcast though, you can't "unsee" the things Nathan Killen pointed out about the pics.

Either way, I need more than the taxidermy dude gave, especially considering his attitude. And the host was not a bit subtle about what his thoughts are on the subject, lol. He was quick to agree and jump on board with this guy.

I watched a buck with a pronouncedly rounded over forehead walk in and get shot on Chasing November just this weekend. I also saw a buck with tufted up hair around the bases walk in and get killed on Chasing November this weekend. I also saw a buck whose base didn’t line up with the top of the ear walk in and get killed on Chasing November this weekend.

Not saying there’s not some funky looking deer in those pictures, but “come on man, if you can’t see that’s a doe then c’mon” isn’t a good enough substantiation of an argument for me.

I’m neutral on the deer. I want it to be real and I’m willing to give the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise, but that guy’s “proof” was not as strong to the negative as the GW, scorers and others that held the deer in their hands “proof” was to the positive.

One other thing about the dude on the podcast….he repeatedly said he believed the racks were real, I really wish he wouldn’t have immediately left that subject every time he brought it up. Why not talk about; ok, where did they come from? Ok, if you have a giant rack like that why would you need to put it on another deer? Etc.

I always view these things from the standpoint of me being on a jury and listening to it (which I been a few times, lol) and something about this guy just seems off to me, not enough backing up of his arguments. Every time the discussion headed to where I thought it should go he shut it down quickly……”c’mon man, if you can see that’s a doe, c’mon….”.

These same questions occurred to me while I was listening to it and I really wish they would have talked about the "why". I don't know Nathan Killen but, have listened to him several times on other podcasts and I do believe he didn't broach those subjects and struggled with some of the answers because he was genuinely struggling with how much he should/shouldn't say.

Ultimately I agree, if I was sitting on a jury the information presented wouldn't have found him guilty but, after looking at the pics they were discussing, Rompola really has killed some goofy looking deer.

I have a lot of respect for both Nathan and Troy and understand where each are coming from. I've gone back and forth in my head but the latest podcast has really added a lot of doubt. I will say I was thinking the exact same thing about where did the antlers come from then, but it all goes back to one simple thing for me. And that is that Mitch could have put this to bed a long time ago if it was legit. People say he didn't care about the notoriety and what not. Does someone who starts their own website to show off their whitetails not care about notoriety? I just truly believe there was something not legit about it or he would have proved it. If it's true that it's legit and he doesn't care then good for him, I don't care either then. There's an element to it where that deer almost deserves to be seen and admired and for a trophy hunter like Mitch to not feel that way about it is pretty weird. Part of me wants to believe it but it just does not add up.

Gun to my head, I’d say it’s most likely fake. For some reason I can’t explain, I want it to be legit. But like the Patterson-Gimlin film, wanting it to be true doesn’t make it so. Too much smoke.

The 3rd one where the guy was talking about the scent lures convinced me to give it a shot. Mitch used em!! I purchased some mock scrape stuff. Then when this last one came out, and I went dang. That last guy was just selling scents. I took the bait. Or so I felt.. So kinda made me mad.

Troy is the real deal man. Yes he is selling scents but listen to some of his podcasts and you'll see he's not just selling scents. His success is hard to argue with. Whether the Rompola buck is legit or not doesn't really change that. Not saying the scents are guaranteed to work for you or anything. It's kind of like John Eberhardt and scent control. Everybody gets all fired up about it but realize that there is so much more that those guys are doing to be successful and the scents or the scent control are just a small fraction of what they are actually doing. Maybe those products do help, but let's face it, those guys would be killing big deer with or without those products.

I agree with ya on Troy. And I bet he could 3D target antlers on a teddy bear and ol taxidermy dude wouldn’t stand in front of him and call him a liar

Come to think of it, taxidermists themselves make their living selling lies.

Not saying he is not a killer. But saying he owns a company and makes a living selling a product.

I know what you mean but I wouldn't be mad about buying it to give it a try. I don't think he's selling lies.
