Modifications to First Gen JX3 Hybrid

i kind of wish I wore a suit every day to work sometimes. Had to shave to do some work in a plant. And I saw the back of my head on a trail cam picture and noted there’s more bald than is worth trying to deny. So off it all came.
Did you do away with the leg straps?

Thanks for the video. The things that helped me:
1) Your methodical approach that ultimately leads to getting to the tree and climbing ASAP. I feel like no matter the method of going up the tree, this is probably the biggest thing that makes the difference. It's obvious you've put time in coming up with a system that works for you. Proper planning prevents piss poor performance.
2) The way that the pack is attached at the four corners, easy and secure.
3) Rappel rope storage method. I've actually struggled with where to put my canyon. This might be the ticket.
4) I'm super skinny and the oem belt isn't great for me. I love that pack belt, looks like a huge improvement.

How do you carry your weapon? If you decide to one stick, do you have a way to attach stick to pack and remove without having to remove pack at the tree?

if I one stick I hang it from fork, with single bungee I can address witrout taking off hybrid, Carry it, or lay it across top of gap between sideways where I can reach back and grab it. Literally dozens of different ways To carry tings.

Idk if anyone else has said this before but I've been keeping my 45ft oplux in a pouch tucked in the back of the backrest. I have my quicklink on the d-loop of my right shoulder strap w my hitch and biner connected to my right LB loop soni can use it to pass limbs (not 1sticking obviously). When I rap down, it feeds out just fine.

I have been hanging more and more gear in the back ran over the top with a piece of paracord. I just pull it to me if I need it.
Initially I was trying to avoid that bc I felt like my profile was already ridiculously huge but I've accepted with the hybrid, I'm just going to require more cover or a higher setup. I'm ok with that.

I am trying to find a better way to have my gun at the ready when I'm not holding it. Its alot of movement to get it off a gear hook if one gets on me fast. My initial thoughts are a loop of something on my scope and hang it off the bridge loop concoction. Anyone find a better solution for your gun?

I rest my gun across the harness in front of me. My hands go in my pockets from outside harness when it’s cold, and I also rest my arms on top of my gun - great armrest for me. My hands simply move along my profile to position on the gun. I point it at most likely deer direction - left side since I’m right handed.

Same here. My gun goes across the bridge and it's used as an arm rest with my muff on top. I do have a place to hang it, if I need to make bridge adjustments. And I do have it tied off, in case I fall asleep and it were to slip off the bridge. That has not happened before.

Made my 2nd hunt in mine this morning. Yesterday was ok, good news is i can shoot really well out this thing. Smoked 2 hogs. This morning was terrible, farther walk and different tree. It was a tight spot getting into tree because of back cover and seemed the Jx3 kept snagging everything. Cant seem to get any kind of organization in this thing. Trying going packless and that was a nightmare. I hate stuff in my pants pockets when walking that far.
The bridge is also aggravating, i dont like it just hanging or swinging around.
I also dont feel very safe in this thing in the dark using the linesman belt. In my Phantom i feel nice and secure but this thing makes me feel unbalanced if that makes sense. Dont know how much longer i will kerp trying it. Like the comfort but everything else not so much at this point.

It takes a few more seconds of taking your time and getting things set. Having the fork perpendicular to gravity is key. You can’t just run the fork out and hunt. It typically takes me 10-15 seconds to set properly, versus 3-5 seconds to just sit with it where it lands.

Climbing with a lineman’s belt in a soft saddle is no different than the hybrid. It functions exactly the same way. What specifically are you saying here?

How specifically was the hybrid catching on more stuff behind you than you would have caught on your own? It may be an inch or two wider than you, and an inch or two deeper than you in any dimension you’d measure. But it’s on you. If you would hit brush, it will. I don’t see howextending any of your own body dimensions by an inch or two would prevent you from hunting a spot.

there’s several ways to secure the bridge while walking and climbing. I’ve shown a few. Tucking into your belt until you’re ready to hook in is the simplest.

strange to post the gripes in this thread, which is about modifications. There’s several threads on “I like the hybrid/I don’t like the hybrid.”

are you posting this for help with these issues?

Took my Wilderness Pack off of my Molle II frame and put it on my Hybrid. Fits well. It’s built to be a load/meat shelf and also has a pocket that you can fit a couple extra layers and few other items in. This should allow me to keep some gear in the pocket and be able to access it when the Hybrid’s seat is deployed and will be able to act as a meat shelf keeping some quarters packed tight without relying on the seat as much.

Got a spot fixed to attach my Gripr that holds my WE Stepps between the seat and frame. I can unclip it without taking the pack off and then hang it from the side of the Hybrid to go up the tree. Was also able to use the Molle clips on my Tethrd dump pouches to put one on each side. Can reach my lineman’s, tether, and ROS without taking the pack off as well.

Really liking this saddle.

Taking it out some later this week so I’ll post some then if not sooner.

Please get some pictures of the belt setup that came on the kodiak - specifically how it attaches to the molle frame, the lumbar padding, and take note of how the belt webbing is attached to all the padding.

thanks!

40’ rope & MadRock Safeguard in the right pouch
Main Tether & Knaider/Swaider in the top left pouch
Lineman’s & ROS on an OCB in the bottom left pouch
WE Stepps on a Gripr hanging from the hook

I can reach whatever I need without taking the pack off. I have to lift up the seat and unhook it to lift the Stepps off the hook and move them to my side, but can hook the seat back up without taking it off.

If you have a gen 1 hybrid. And you want it to be a meat hauler. Stope doing anything else, buy an exo k3 belt and shoulder harness.

I bought the entire k3 4800 pack system, and am selling the popup and kifaru systems. I can only afford one with a baby on the way. Space mostly.

Melted 3 holes in the k3 belt, drilled 3 holes in molle frame. Done.

Have to figure out how to get lineman’s belt, and leg straps incorporated. Have some ideas.

But my hybrid now can’t be beat in terms of load carrying. The DIY stuff I did worked good. This works great. Simple. Then, I can just unscrew 3 nylock nuts and reattach to the exo pack.
