Modify older Trophyline?

Static rope is not designed to stretch under load. This is in contrast to dynamic rope which is designed with a certain degree of stretch. Static ropes have many applications including (but not limited to); abseiling, rappelling, fire rescue operations and caving. The low stretch properties of static ropes allow for a controlled, bounce free descent. As an example, abseiling ropes typically have a ~2% when under a standard body weight load. I think you can use either as your not bouncing around unlike a safety line for treestand harness which needs to absorb load when you fall.

So I got my new (unused), older-model Trophyline a few weeks back. Knew right away I didn't want to monkey with the factory linemans belt and tree tether due to weight and bulk, so I picked up a Cobra D-frame buckle and some tubular webbing to make a bridge & tether. Got those things out the other day and...I'm too nervous to do anything yet.

Anyone have one of the older TL saddles that could talk me through it, either here or via PM? Actually, I'll post my planned mods and maybe someone could give me feedback?

1. Cut off factory bridge, replace with tubular webbing that's tied on to the lineman loops. The Cobra buckle will live on the bridge, like @Nutterbuster 's set up.
2. Cut off leg straps (Yes or no, anyone? They're huge and seem kinda useless.)
3. Create tether with tubular webbing to run through Cobra buckle.
4. Hunt??

IDK, maybe I'm overthinking it and the factory straps aren't that bad. I sure don't love them so far, though.
This is the only saddle ive hunted from for the last 12 season's this sat will be the start if the 13th. I havent ever modified my saddle except waxing the webbing and adding pouches / stuff to the loops. Its still strong & stout and shows minimal wear.
Mine is just alittle warm because of the material..

Is there a specific wax you use for the webbing? Or just regular ol wax?

Bringing this one back up. I’ll second a few points in here. Gulf Wax is great for conditioning the webbing. Usually just apply it once a year and good to go. I bought climbing rope to replace the bridge and never did the mod. Glad I didn’t. It cinches down great for the walk in. Really the only changes I’d make would be the suspenders (don’t like them elastic) and the connection system...I like attaching to the tree with a lineman’s with a wide carabiner tied into a prussic so the stock bridge can still slide easy. Probably the only change I’ll make.

Other than that, I’d rather mod climbing sticks and platform.

I have this very saddle, and the original leather version. I've pondered doing the same mods but in the end, I'm not touching them. I see a lot of effort on the forum for weight reduction but these things are still so light it has literally no effect on my hunt stamina or anything of the like. Exception, the leather version, its heavy and changing out rope for webbing would have little benefit. I don't use that one anymore, its a keepsake and conversation piece now days.
