Yep...gonna weld up a 19" one sticking stick with a built in platform. Trying to get right at 3lbs with everything. Ising:
1. About 52ft of 1"x.25 inch flatbar. Only 4.5ft is actual stick. The rest is for bad hacksaw cuts
2. Bandaid assortment
3. 22" of 1"sqaure tubing .125 wall thickness
4. Quick tourniquet cause I'll prolly need it
5. 2ea of DanOs plain standoffs. Gonna make my own step.
6. Garage intercom set on "hot mic" so my spouse can listen for crys for help or gurgling noises
7. 1ea 140 mig with spool gun
8. Grinder with 60grt wheel and cutting wheel
9. 1 super awesome 1923 craftsman bench top drill press (1/8 horse per baby! ) Almost gotta turn the spindle by hand!
10. Trash bags for debris and sucking chest wounds..

And we are off!

I have a one sticking platform welded with around a 8x12 platform that weighs about 2lbs.

you got this!

Made a jig earlier. I didnt take notes cause I dont, so a jig is nice to see exactly where I went wrong and for reference.

Then I got to hacking.

Went with this shape cause I bent the last remaining 2 ft from my original 52ft and had to make it work somehow...plus the algorithmic angle of the repressor needed to be 14=y÷pie so that my downward force defied gravity...you know...

Cut my stck to long...had to get another. Went ahead and drilled some holes. Not sure why but the cool kids do it so I did to.
Heres a static example of how I drill holes...you are welcome

Put a little offset (10°) on the stick so that I can see my toes whilst standing on it. Plus, the last straight undamaged piece of my 52ft of flatbar was to short for a 90° angle on the gusset.

Got the step done. I went with the "angled on both ends" design to increase airflow and reduce wind shear.

Decided not to drill holes in it cause this sh@$ already looks iffy...

Bout to start tacking it together. Torch is for preheating cause my welder sucks. Lots of wire brushing and acetone to clean the metal.

I threw the calipers up there just so you wouldn't think I was a hack

Welders should get paid more...

Well, it ain't pretty, but it is strong. I did the "throw it in the air and let it land on concrete" test and no breaks or cracks. I have some pin holes to fill and some piles to knock down, but over all think it will hold. Just waiting on my stand offs from @DanO to show up on monday to figure out placement for those and step. Camcleat comes in on Monday as well.

Currently at 2lbs 4oz. So, I have 12 oz to play with!

For the angle of the standing platform what I did with mine was set up in the saddle on the ground, find your sweet spot, put the angle finder on either your back or chest, record angle, mathematics, fabrication, prep, weld, and enjoy. 15 was too shallow for me but could be right for you.....

Good job on the preheat.....almost sounds like u know what ur doing

Like how you made a jig

Thank you sir. I noticed what my welds got cleaner and more penetration as I welded. Put 2 and 2 together and figured it was the heat. You tube confirmed.

I just used my LWHC seat and adjusted that until it was comfortable. Hopped down and got the angle. 10 was about right for me.
