Mountain Bike for Access?

Nice Rig! What model fat tire are you using there @AttackMode ? It isn't an electric bike though, right?
Motobecane Night Train Bullet, not an electric bike. I got extremely fortunate that I pre-ordered before the prices skyrocketed. They cost about 65% more now.

I would take a hard look at the trails you use to access your hunting spots. The main farm that I hunted this year had some decent grades and the trail was rutted out. Once I added 10-20 pounds of gear/clothes and a weapon, it was very difficult not to wreck. And yes, I had a rear rack.

The public places I plan on accessing have had recent timbering so the roads are pretty hard packed but yes, I do need to check them out.

I use a MTN bike, have for a couple years. I've hauled 3 doe, 2 buck, a bear and all my trail cameras in and out of the mtn with it. I personally prefer a fat tire. They will roll over everything. I have it setup specifically for hunting and scouting with a rear rack, trailer, accessory bags, a click stand, small medical kit, extra straps, and a bow holder. The best bow holder mounts have been the All Rite Pack Rack Plus, I've tried quite a few and they are hands down my favorite. I also use a 3D camo blind material to conceal it while I'm hunting and keep it stored on the rear rack in a Tethrd Predator pack. Only because I had it laying around, turns out it's pretty useful and works perfect for that. I did buy all of the gear before the pandemic and unfortunately prices of bikes have gone way up. The trailer is a Rambo and the price on that now is almost 3 times what I paid. I would suggest looking for used stuff but even that is pricey too.

sweet set up...noice buck too !

I bought a Leeds 250 w conversion for my Trek and has been working great for the last 3 seasons.
Does this thing help you climb hills? Just curious about its torque. I’m wanting an ebike and can use one legally if it’s max 750watt. I have an older trek mtn bike and this kit may be just what I’m after. Tell me more please! Just not a lot of flat land here where I hunt. But even the hills aren’t too ridiculous. So many places I’d like to hunt are just way too far for me to be walking…..I don’t mind a mile or two, but past that I’m toast.

If you want torque a mid drive motor is going to give you more than a hub motor.

Ill be dropping the cash on a bakcou storm Jager model later this year. The price imo is absolutely outrageous at 8.5k for the biggest battery option, but It comes with the rohloff hub.
If you know anything about bikes, the rohloff is about as good as it gets for internal gearing. It's extremely efficient. Virtually no maintenance except lubing the chain. There's no sticks or weeds to get caught in the cassette cause there isn't one. Much much bigger gear range than the standard model at 500%. You'll go faster and climb easier while likely burning less battery because it's more efficient. You can go from the top gear to the lowest gear with the turn of the handle. A standard drivetrain you actually have to cycle through all the gears to get to the correct one.
But the biggest is maintenance.
I like tinkering with mechanical stuff, but during season I just want my stuff to work.
I can pop it off the rack and just start pedaling everytime

Brother if it’s your reach I’d say go for it! I ain’t hating anyone’s expensive toys! But That’s not my budget fo sho! When I told my wife I wanted an ebike for around $1500 she bout fell out! But then she started helping me look, so at least there’s that. I’m thinking next season it may happen. I actually liked taking the trek bike, but a power assist would be amazing. Especially since I’m hauling so much stuff. Pack with bow, saddle, platform and stick ain’t too much, but still a load.

Look up “GA Bowhunter” on YouTube.
He’s got the same Himiway bike I do ($1,600) and he’s put his through the ringer as well.

If e-bikes are legal in your area, check out the Himiway Step-Thru Cruiser. They’re a fraction of the cost of the bikes marketed for hunting and I’ve put mine through the ringer with no issues. Shipping and taxes, I think I have $1,600 in mine.

I wasn’t crazy about the idea of an e-bike. Being a mountain biker and runner, I always thought it was lazy; however, having owned one now, being able to hit a logging road and cover a few miles and be home much quicker has really been nice. They’re not legal everywhere here so I get to use it about 25% of the time.

I felt the same way until I rode one in town, they are a blast. Might need to look into that Himiway, the thought of putting a deer on my $5K mountain bike makes me sick lol

The 250 watt will assist you going up hills but will not do it on it’s own. It’s not a high power option if that’s what your looking for but works great for cruising on flatter terrain. Loaded up with all my gear I can cruise at 15 mph and easily get 10 miles without pedaling using the mid-range battery.

For you guys with longer bows, how are you carrying them.
Not sure how I would strap a 58" bow.

I have a Montana Scabbard on mine.
I’ve strapped my compound and recurve in their. Just have to watch for low hanging limbs with the recurve.

Here’s the link to their site. I think it’s kind of a one man show.

This is the only pic of mine I have handy, not sure if you can zoom
In enough to see much or not.
I prefer it over the racks that go on the handlebars.

I've used a fat tire bike for a couple of years now. Put on my pack, sling my bow and off I go.
I hunt out of a camper alot during season and the bike allows me to just leave the truck in camp.
It cuts down on the walking for an old guy with bad knees and I dont have to leave the truck nearby advertising where I'm hunting.
@boyne bowhunter is your bike motorized?
