Must have crossbow features vs fluff

TenPoint Siege rs410
w/ Garmin Xero X1i

weight is centered and not all forward heavy, due to Reverse Limb, Reverse Draw.
Not a super high draw weight, while still being an acceptable fps speed, reduces wear and tear on the limbs and string, due to Reverse Limb, Reverse Draw increase in Power Stroke length.
Zero noise cocking, ability to deCock, due to crank system (AcuSlide, death by Bunjie is not a fan of)

9” pie late every time at 80 yards. Would I take that shot in the woods ? I don’t think so. Too much time to jump the string, but the Garmin makes the bow super accurate is my point. At 40 yards I am shooting quarter inch groups and William Telling knocks. 40 and 50 yard shots I would take in the woods all day every time with this Bow and Scope combo.

The only thing you need is a bolt. But I wouldn't shoot a newer one without a scope. They're cheap enough and effective, why not have one? A hand-crank cocker is super nice, but they're expensive so I don't have one. Maybe some day when I win the lottery.

The only other piece of equipment I suggest having is a dump bag. They're 15-20 bucks and worth every penny. Dump the bolt into it after your hunt's over.

Hey all, I am exploring the idea of a crossbow, both for myself and for a cousin of mine who is 11 years old. Im wondering what features your crossbows have that you wouldnt like to live without. I am not particularly obsessed with speed, normal compound bow speeds would be fine with me. Seems to me that light and compact would be top of the list. I am considering a Hickory Creek Mini, because of course I am, but I am wondering if any of yall have used something else that you think is better because of some specific feature.

PS: does anyone shoot a crossbow without a scope? Is there a crossbow equivalent of a pin sight or iron sights on a rifle? All the crossbows I see in media have a scope.
I started out with a sniper 370, but dropped it after my second season. Replaced it with an Excalibur micro 308 short. It is much lighter and more well balanced. Tough as a tank and you can maintain it yourself. You can cock it with an aider or a crank. It’s small enough to position between me and the tree when the tether is attached to the tree at upper chest height. I also use an assault sling(attaches across your chest) for security at hunting height.
Both weight and balance are important so I recommend testing out the crossbow before you purchase. Also hold it at hunting angle, for a minute or so, not just straight and level.

I’ve heard you can attach a red dot sight to crossbows, because in some states I believe magnified scopes are not legal. I haven’t tried those.

Thanks. I bought a Sub1 lite. Very impressed so far. Extremely accurate. It is heavier than I expected but it seems very well constructed. Anxious to it out on a deer this far. Good luck with ur HC!

The Sub One Lite is an exceptional crossbow. I've been toting one now for a few years. Quiet, relatively "light" in weight, super easy to cock n de-cock...no need to discharge an arrow, accurate to a fault, and I can shoot fixed blade broadheads no problem.

There are a few, but they are few and far between. Most states just prohibit visible light, like a laser sight.

Lighted nocks. When the arrows going 400 fps plus, you don’t have a clue where it’s going without one.

I shot a nice buck last november at 19 yards. He was so close that I was not able to track the arrow with the lighted knock. I just saw his body language and new he was dead on his feet. I have the excalibur TD 400 assisin.

In PA as long as the scope doesn't shoot a beam of light on the target or deer in this case it is legal. Red dot are good in PA.
