Made myself a bosun seat out of plywood and fleece and open cell foam a few months back, it has really enhanced my comfort but its heavy and a bit awkward. Made something a bit lighter yesterday, I back it up with a RCH for safety but no additional saddle is needed.
Only revolutionary thing in this post is the material I used for the stiff part of the seat. The material is a stretchy athletic knit similar to what Spanx are made from, I had previously been using this piece as a "fleece" saddle. Repurchased it for this. Its ugly but it seems comfy as hell and it is lighter and more compact than my plywood one.
