Well here it goes. Another back pack thread.. I just got my new (to me) mystery ranch pop up 18 for xmas and have been playing around with it at the house some. Took it out for its first hunt last night but was cut short and ended up ground hunting. I'll just say this pack is unbelievable though. Anyhow, I've been trying to search for threads of how guys that pack in 4 sticks and a platform are packing theirs on the meat shelf, or to the outside. I have 4 20" hawks and a predator. Last night I used the pop up feature while sticking all 4 hawks together and putting the platform in the bag. It definitely worked, but the standoffs would jab my back sometimes and I'm worried about them tearing into the bag over time. I am trying find a more efficient method. Any one have pictures of their setups? Or critique mine?

I have the 38, so bigger bag. I use the straps that attach the frame to the bag to cinch the sticks to the front. Notice the buckles are male-female on one side and female-male on the other.

I ran a mission and 4 novix minis which nest pretty good together, with my pop up 28, any extra clothes and the mission/sticks rode on the meat shelf, I carry a small fleece bag that goes up the tree with me for extra snacks etc and the popup stays on the ground, I really like my pop up.

I hate gimmicky stuff and was hesitant to buy the pop up but after using it this season I am definitely impressed and plan on keeping it, I was also worried about sticks and crap tearing it up so what I did was wrap that stuff half assed around it all with my extra coat or whatever I had, I dress in layers and usually have a hoodie or something extra.

I have the popup 28 and helium 20"'s - I lay mine horizontal in the meat shelf. Go back next day to get sticks if I get a deer and pack it out :p

I was thinking about getting that one my backpack doesn't have frame I have trophyline C.A.Y.S backpack. It's hard on my back. I looked at some reviews on YouTube on mystery ranch pop up 28 and they said good for saddle hunting and packing out deer.

Would I have to buy the longer straps from mystery ranch to do this?

I agree 100%, but man this pack is amazing. This is the first top of the line frame pack I've had my hands on and it's definitely as good as everyone says. Especially for my style of hunting. Makes the weight issue not a bother for me because of how comfortable and versatile it is. I like the idea of using an extra layer to wrap sticks with, since most of my clothing when loaded on the pack will be attached outside of the bag. If I could manage to nest the hawks and predator together in the meat shelf that'd free up my bag space.

I use the two straps over the top compartment to strap my stick down. I lay mine vertical against the face of the pack and crisscross the two straps. I do have a platform on my stick so that helps to keep it at a good height.

If I ever decide to one stick in my saddle career im copying that method lol crazy how many configurations you can do with these straps!

The stock straps should be plenty long. I did buy some additional straps so I can strap my sticks and platform to the front of the pack if the meat shelf is full but it isn't necessary. Not sure if the 18 has additional strapping points, the 38 has some small webbing loops on the sides.

No doubt. Back when I used.....excuse me, “ran”, 4 LW Minis I would strap 2 on each side. I’m not a fan of my stick on the shelf because of the offset bracket size. There’s plenty of room, but I like the main compartment as close
To my back as possible.

I got the pop up 38. Pack the sticks and platform sideways on meat shelf.

Do you have problems with anything hitting your back or arms? What about going through thick brush?

How did you manage to strap them to the sides? Using the 2 compression straps from the bag to the frame on each side?

Thats a negative on additional strapping points for my pack

I am pretty much same width as sticks. I do have to watch out going between trees sometimes but it works without too much snag. I don't like up and down dice I am always ducking under something. I put platform against back and sticks onto of that to help. Puts a little more distance. With that said I can still draw bow without issue and shot at deer a few weeks. I could not range without being pegged and shot over back.
