Natural cover...it matters!

Tree tops work great! I set up in one very similar to your 2nd photo last season. Wind was howling 30mph and I just didn't want to climb up a tree. Had a large tree that I could sit beside in the downed tree top. Half an hour before dark, a 2-3 yr old 8 point came walking in. Wind was perfect, he was maybe 5 yards away. He stopped and look right at me but never made me. Love it when I fool them like that.

This is gonna be a great thread.
I found that sitting on my stand inches off the ground attached to a tree or propping up the stand's seat post and simply sit on the stand on the ground (thanks @Redbeard)has helped me stay still compared to a tripod seat or knees.
Also, had more back cover this year than front cover. Until this year having front cover was more important to me but this last season taught me to sit extremely still, avoid eye contact and have good back cover (front cover is good if it doesn't interfere with drawing back/aiming). Finally, I positioned myself, in the the situations where it was possible, to make sure I had a strong side shot.
