Actually, I damn near lost the tip of the same pointer finger a few years ago.
When it gets cold my whole hand hurts. I'm thinking this new addition isn't gonna help...

That's because the pinky and thumb do all the bull work! Ring finger has no feeling in it. Middle finger is skin on bone. Pointer is shaped to hold a pencil! 13 years old when I did that. You will learn that a oversized leather mitten and a normal glove inside is your best friend in the winter months.

Got mine stuck in a squirrel cage a few years back. Amazing how much will heal on its own. Cut the bone clean in half. Best of luck to you.

Figure of 8 progress capture???

I use the @phatkaw method as well. I really like it. So easy. As far as the second wrap being tight one thing I have done to overcome that issue was to let myself fall into the tree and wrap my legs around it and take some of the pressure off the rope. The I just twist the 8 a bit with my hand...
