NEED HELP!!!! — Sharpening new single bevel

That stone i linked is 8x3in. its perfect for pretty much all broadheads especially with the angled jig. im sure the sandpaper works fine but the diamond last a loooong time and stay flat. i have a lot of knives i like keeping sharp too and its worth it to have good stones for me.. Dull knives are my biggest pet peeve. For the strop, you dont need a leather strop just the compound and a piece of cereal box cardboard works just as good.

I bought 5 sheets of 8-1/2 x 11 320 grit paper and 5 8-1/2 x 11 sheets of 400 then a mixed pack of 3.5 x 9 800, 1000 1500 2000 and 2500. It took all 10 sheets of the 8-1/2 x 11 to get 5 cutthroats on the same angle. I had sharpened all of these with a lansky sharpener so there was some variation since the angle adjuster is approximate. Once I had the angle right it would only take 10-15 passes on the different grits along with stroping with white and green compound. To get the blade sharp enough for shaving and cutting paper I had to strop.

This floor was clean this morning ...that is all metal dust from about 30 minutes of grinding. ...80 get sandpaper.
I used that sander to remove 95% of the material with the sandpaper and touch up with grinder to make these fishmouth....
Don't underestimate the sandpaper

It really doesn't matter what medium you use for sharpening, Arkansas Stone, Diamond Stone, Automotive wet dry sandpaper, or the smooth concrete on your porch. A consistent angle and a light touch, make sure you raise a burr. I personally find a 6-inch Mill bastard file and a piece of cardboard gives me the Shaving Sharp edge that you're seeking.

I use a kme and sandpaper for my single bevels. I use the lansky system and diamond stones for my double bevels. For both I use a worksharp field sharpener to touch up in the field. They all work once you learn how to use them. Before I learned, it was like pulling teeth to get a scary sharp edge.

With the diamond stones, typically you dont want to use oil, just a little water. With a kme and single bevels, be sure to backstroke a few strokes every now and then to remove the burr on the bottom/flat under your edge. Say you do 10 push strokes on your blade, you will feel a burr on the bottom and to get rid of it you will have to flip the broadhead over and do a couple/few pull strokes to remove that burr. I like a couple/few real light pulls to get rid if that burr because it doesn't turn my single bevel into a double bevel.

Snorted the fairy dust and got some 200gr Cutthroats. I feel like I’m having issues sharpening them with the Innovative Outdoorsman jigs. I have used a lot of sandpaper but haven’t got an edge honed yet. I have a couple close but not scary sharp yet. If anyone has sharpened any single bevel, let me know.

If your using sand paper get a thick piece of glass and put little water on it then stick the sandpaper to it. It’ll help hold it plus create a dead flat surface. Without it the sandpaper rolls along in front of the edge and will not create that fine edge you seek.

Yeah found that out the hard way. Went from sandpaper to glass and spent the first bit correcting the edge that the “flat” surface and sand paper created

This guy and either the stay sharp or Kme self leveling jig and my broadheads are finally shaving sharp. This little diamond tri-hone set is worth every penny to me.
