I shot this buck this morning. I know it isn’t the oldest or largest but I needed to tag out to trap this property.

He surprised me from behind. Still learning saddle hunting, I put my arm under the saddle and couldn’t draw. I switched and drew.

I stopped him for a broadside shot but he jumped the string and quartered away.

What you see is after the shot. He mule kicked and did this.

Here is the blood trail as he crossed the road twice.

I have left him now for 5 hours. I did bump it twice.

So the update is that I saw it two more times. Each time I had enough time to try and shoot it again but brush was thick.

I decided to wait till morning since I believe it clotted up and is internal bleeding now.

I guess I will see

Great news! I got closure on this buck! I found him 250 yards from the tree. Looks like he bedded in the thickest stuff on the property.

Went shed hunting today and there he was!

Congratulations! I've had it happen before. It's a good feeling and a little sickening also. I walked within 40 yards of him while tracking the day of shot and stumbled across him late season scouting.
