Need help creating a FAQ's thread

@redsquirrel Something along these lines???

https://saddlehunter.com/community/index.php?threads/frequently-asked-questions-faq.12701/

As suggested above, we could add for each category helpful search terms.
If someone has a better approach we can delete this one.
Not sure if it would help or not but breaking up Donnieballgames beginner thread as it has almost everything. Climbing methods, platforms, saddles, etc. It is a long but great read though.... Just not sure how many people have taken the time to read it since it was posted. A lot of the info you broke up is covered the by donnieballgame.

@redsquirrel if you are willing to create a new folder breaking down the faq thread into multiple subjects, then we could all tackle certain segments. I can talk ad nauseam about the knaider/swaider and sitdrags. Just a thought.

I agree with someone's comment above that the search button is a great thing. I still have not figured out though how to make the results include only ALL the words in my query, not either word(s) though.

It is great to see all the new people here, but I miss the discussions we had regarding new ideas, designs, etc. It almost seems like many of the regulars are not on here is much anymore, or I am just missing their posts. I am worried that the more seasoned guys are getting turned off by the repetitive nature of the new threads. We had some really great discussions last year.

Just a thought as I am pretty new here but I have been using forums for some time now so I've mastered the search button,
What if in FAQ instead of just giving as many answers as possible maybe just give them key words for searching.
For Platforms search - Predetor, Lone wolf Custom, out on a limb, etc.
For Ring of steps seach - bullman, squirrel steps, ameristeps
For adjusting linemans belt - prussic, ropeman, aider
For climbing methods - spurs, bolts, sticks,
For rope types - amsteel, samson, paracord\
For saddle type info - Tetherd, Kestrel, Kite, Mantis, JX3, sit drag

Something like that so they could weed it out themselves. Also maybe add abbreviations
ROS - Ring of steps
SRT - ??? I still dont know what that one stands for.

Sorry for the lousy spelling. Just having a quick break at work.
I tried a ROS search but sometimes you do have to shift thru a ton of stuff to really get what info you need. A FAQ would be great but also sometimes asking a question again does get others involved who seldom share or just got more experience in a saddle system or changed systems. It's a big help! Sorry.....my 1/2 cent worth.

To be fair to the new guys, the amount of content in the forum has gotten pretty big. I sometimes have trouble finding specific things I may be looking for even when I know who posted it and what content I'm looking for.

Would setting up a thread that had headings to common discussion trends as shown below with links to relevant threads to help provide quick shortcuts to information on a hot topic?

Saddle Sizing
Saddle Types
Kestrel
Kite
Mantis
Sitdrag
Guidos Web
JX-3
DIY
Ropeman
Ropes
For Tethers
for Linesman’s
For Bridges
Ascenders/Descenders
Aiders, Knaider, Swaider
Stick Mods
Packs
Platform comparisons
Predator
ROS
LW Hand Climber
DIY
Climbing Methods
Wildedge Stepps
Drill and bolts
Sticks
SRT
Versa Strap

Another idea might be to promote the use of the tags more when creating threads. It might aid searching for specific topics.

This is more what I was imagining with what I setup. I haven't had time to add examples...but I was imagining it more as a directory. Much of this information is out there. We just need to get people to the right threads.

So for what I setup I was imagining topics within those categories w/ links to the most useful threads on those topics. People will still have to sift thru the thread (which is likely long if a hot topic) but at least they would know they are in the right place.

It would take far too much time to mine all the info out for a single thread IMO.

I’ll pay someone to include the stacked outdoors sticks on this list

I've been looking all over this site for what a "Swaider" is and can find all kinds of mention and videos and youtube stuff, but mostly it tells me what an aieder is and a knaider, but nothing about a swaider.

We truly speak a different language. I'm open to helping with FAQs in any way, but am no where near an expert.

This is just what I modified from what DaveT uses as an aider and people on here called it the Swaider.

FAQ threads are usually overwhelming. Keep it short if you want anyone to read it. Newbs should be only able to post in the newb forum until they reach 50 post or more. They should have access to see the whole site but can’t post. That may force them to spend more time on the newb forum. The newb forum should be well organized so it’s easy for them to navigate basic topics. It should be a place for them to learn the basic styles, platforms and saddles along with all the terminology we frequently use. It will help them communicate and search better once they can enter the rest of the forum. Videos are great for everyone to learn. They should be entered in specific sub forums within the newb forum. These new guys are great and have a lot to offer. We just need to send them thru basics first.
That sounds like a good idea.

I'm open to any ideas. I don't have the answer and I know it is a general problem with forums, not just here. I also know we can't eliminate it but if we can do anything to minimize it it would be helpful. @donnieballgame had put together a beginner/newbie thread for people to read. My first thoughts are to have the registration email that is sent to new users contain links to this information. I can't force anyone to read it though. I can start just deleting those threads but that's not the right way to go about it. We could designate someone to be the jerk that always posts "use the search function" lol. It actually works pretty good on here.
I volunteer to be the “jerk”

Red - you might also consider a new folder/tab - Newbies start here -? That way we could dump all the FAQs and new user threads into that area - would give the new saddle hunters a single place to go to get started? just a thought.
Just from a newbie perspective I didn't even know where to start, how to start, how to post, how to add an avitar, proper way of attaching images/videos etc still not sure on some things....who ever suggested making newbies complete some steps before posting... would be a great idea as long as it's spelled out for them in one informative introductory area. I like what @donnieballgame started in FAQ if there was a way of indexing this to find the data quickly....computers have made us more instant gratification oriented....

There already are a couple pretty solid threads that are good for newbies. I though it was @DaveT1963 that created a thread about different saddles, ropes, climbing styles but I could be completely wrong. It was a great thread for me when I started.

I am wondering it we couldn't make a thread of videos for the newbies? There are a few videos about how to set up your saddle, then the videos on daisy chain DIY, climbing methods, @Nutterbuster climbing trees and drilling holes.

So maybe we do a sticky with climbing methods, saddle setups and styles, rope mods for sticks and saddles, different platforms, and anything else. Then within those stickies explain the differences and include videos of each. I am sure that there is a video out there for all of them. Almost like a bock of how to saddle hunt safely.

I think this is the best idea
Videos explain things the best
An organized section of videos as a must watch for newbies

Start with flinginairos trying to fall out of a saddle
Or top 20 saddle videos for new saddle hunters
I used @Cain s video again to carefully look at his stick placement for one stick climbing. It is easy to do now

I have several times sent multiple videos to potential saddle hunters in Ontario

I think a FAQ thread is awesome but if newbs don’t know it exists then it won’t help. When new members post in the “Welcome!” thread we should make an effort comment and to direct new members to the FAQ thread and encourage them to do some research before posting. That way they will feel welcome and they will have some directions instead of diving in and asking 45,574,876 questions that have easily found answers!
