Hello all I’ve got the ok from the wife to go on a Nebraska hunt next year. I’ve tried searching a little bit about how to get a permit but am just not finding much info. I see they are all sold out for this year and that’s fine because I wanted to try for next year. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I don't think they're selling 2019 deer permits yet. They just got done with some public hearings and passed some new legislation. Tags will probably go on sale in a few weeks. I believe non resident state wide buck tag with hunting license will probably run $500+.

Wasn’t sure if they were sold out or had not gone on sale yet. Looks like June 10 they go on sale. Does anyone know of some good public land?

You might want to narrow it down to whitetails or mulies 1st. Most everything on the east side of the state if 40-60 acre tracts.

Most everything S of I80 got hammered with EHD about 4 years ago. #'s are coming back around though.

It will be 100% whitetail I just know nothing about Nebraska. I hate to be that guy but I wanna go out there to try and get a monster. I have no shame going out and coming back empty handed. But I just want to have a chance to do what we all dream of. With kids this is probably going to be my last chance to ever get out there and do it. Or if they are interested in hunting a recon to learn more and maybe someday get them a buck of a lifetime.

Going out west once to shoot a buck of a lifetime? You must be moving there lol.

Archery or rifle?

I would be going for archery. I know it most likely won’t happen but they just have a better caliber of deer out there. Just the chance to be in the land of giants will be enough excitement for me.

I hunt SE Nebraska and there are big deer. But if it was me planning a once in a lifetime whitetail hunt I would put for an Iowa tag and hunt Nebraska if I didn't draw. There is just more public land and more monsters.

I've lived in Nebraska on the eastern edge of the state for 7 years now and been hunting it for 5. Public land anywhere within 90 minutes of Lincoln or Omaha gets hammered until rifle season ends. The first 2-3 weeks of the season we also get inundated with out of state guys looking for velvet muleys and whitetails in the western 2/3 of the state. Basically, look west of hwy 81 with OnX, find small properties in obscure locations that no one else will want to hunt or find the small timber patches on big properties that everyone overlooks.
