New Aerohunter saddle?

My first saddle was an OG size 1 Kestrel. It changed the way I hunt, forever, for the better. It was the gold standard. Then they came out with the Kite, even better in my opinion.

Then for some reason they discontinued both. I was willing to try the Merlin especially since I got what I thought was a screaming deal on it. Then found out it wasn't a screaming deal, it was a website glitch. That was the day Aero Hunter became irrelevant to me.

... And that's sad, because I used to recommend their saddles to EVERYONE. It seems like they keep redesigning and the price keeps creeping up, adding features nobody really wants.

Bring back the Kite with a rope bridge!

I finally unboxed the one I bought for my daughter yesterday. The kid's size saddle is so small it is cute and she is going to love having a saddle her size and not using my kite lol. As far as design I will definitely be taking off the lineman's belt and fashioning a loop in there to use a traditional lineman's belt. I've never been a fan of the pleat but she won't know the difference and I have her standing on a little platform so she'll be fine either way.

Unfortunately there isn't much going on on the saddle that appeals to me. I'm still using my kestrel and feel its the best saddle that has been made. Like others I'm sad that it has been discontinued and they have gone in a completely different direction.

On a side note, how big is the lineman's loop on your shrikes? The one on the kids size seems pretty small. Like smaller than the small loop on the kestrel (one of the few changes I'd make to a kestrel :)) I'm wondering if it was proportioned to the kids size, which wouldn't really make sense if that's the case.

My linemans loop appears to be about the same size as the the loops on my Flex, which is maybe the one complaint I have with the Flex. I think those linesman loop should be larger. I have difficulty finding those loops in a hurry when wearing bulkier clothes. I do like the red lining inside the loops on the flex. Not sure why they did away with that. Just wish the loops were bigger, more like the loops on the CRUZR.

Not to de-rail the OP but with the decent amount of complaints and the support that aerohunter had prior to this saddle or some others. You think they’d give you the option to “build” you own. I think the quality they put out is awesome, even if a little robust and overkill. People would pay for that quality with the components they specifically want.

Total speculation here but I just think the reason for not doing this is with being a smaller company to begin with and their main business being New Tribe arborist saddles, they don't have the capacity and lead times would be too long to make a "custom" saddle so it wouldn't be very successful because we all know how hunters are. Not many people get their gear ordered 6 months in advanced for the season.

Maybe “custom” was the wrong word, but modular. Make the “saddle portion” with whatever their promoting for the upgrades and have the ability to change bridges, lineman’s loops, etc up to their standards. Just thinking out loud.

Yeah understandable. I'm just not sure that the lineman's loops can be sewed on as a last step or if that has to be done earlier in the process of making the saddle. Now changing bridges is simple they would just have to girth hitch the sewn eye rope bridges instead of installing them on the bridge loops prior to sewing.

also just thinking out loud lol ultimately i think the best option is to give 2 standard lineman's loops and be done with it. I think the majority of people would be happy with that.

Having regular old lineman’s loops can’t really be anymore custom IMO. You can put carabiners in both ends and take it all the way off or tie it on to your non-dominant side and have it permanently attached. Tie on a piece of webbing, rope, Amsteel, whatever you decide. Use whatever buckle method you want to use, it doesn’t have to be a carabiner like if you’re using webbing or something. That’s versatility and it was good the way it was as far as I’m concerned.

Worlds smallest lineman loop. Terrible design… absolutely hate the lineman’s belt deal on this saddle.

I believe they are in the process of changing the design, I ordered one before I realized it only had one loop, I then canceled my order and stated that I wish they would change that, I was informed that they were in the process of changing it, but the update hasn’t been added to the website.

Aerohunter has done custom work in the past. I have an older Aerohunter that I bought used with custom leg loops. I hope they fix the issues :)

Just noticing the lack of conversation this saddle really got. Most new saddles get lots of interest on here and tons saying. "Ordered Mine".
Are the small loops even suppose to be a lineman's loop? Seems like it's set up to just use those two main loops?

Sounds like he is defending his design and trying to say the line man loops are big….

Some people might like them but not me. I want bigger loops and 2 of them.

I think he’s framing an issue more appropriately. Not “defending” anything.

the picture posted is either really misleading, or really informative, depending on the story you want to tell yourself. What it isn’t, is an accurate depiction of the size of the loop.

seems reasonable to clear it up. Minus the actually paying attention to Facebook part - that doesn’t seem like a good move for aero hunter. I liked them betterwhen they didn’t pay attention and just built saddles.
