New and improved jx3

Curious what size you are and if you have had been able to try a slim in-person yet and what your thoughts are?
I haven’t been able to try anything out in perso. I think @kyler1945 is your best bet there.
If you’re 6’3, there’s no technical advantage to the narrower hybrid once you’re in the tree. Of course I like the idea of a smaller profile in the woods, and it is a nice thing. But you have to remember most people are 20” or wider.

The only reason I have continued to press john on it is because I think it will benefit shorter people shooting. I still think 90% of folks are just fine with the standard hybrid. Maybe 2 or 3 out of 10 would prefer the smaller model. His focus should be on catching up to the ridiculous number of folks waiting on a saddle. It sounds like he’s rounding the corner on that.
This is his post from another tread that made me dig deeper. He also has a video.

I would not consider myself a big guy. I’m 5 foot nine and about 193 pounds. I like the standard version of the hybrid. The thing I find is if it was much more narrow you would not be able to open your legs. Having your legs open and being able to go around the tree is what makes it comfortable in my mind.

wow almost bough one but would love to get the slim version because I'm small. any word on when this would be available?

It also accommodates bulkier clothing late season and can pack them in too. Not sure you're build, I'm 5'6" - 140 lbs and like the extra room. A slim sounds nice, but I have no issues with the current size.

Wow, John is awesome. The Gen1 JX3 is the MOST comfortable thing in the woods. Adding improvements like this ... game changing. I don't have the disposable income to go drop another ~$400 on saddle, but I am going to keep watching this thing in case something happens. Plus, I've made most of the adjustments to my Gen1 that I am happy with.

@parkersdad & @jbogg 1 sticking in the JX3 is really quite simple. I haven't hunted that way yet in the real woods, but I have practiced several times in the neighborhood trees. The fork, plus the seat make it really easy to maneuver yourself in a way that make 1 sticking simple. I like the LWHC mod technique, but I also really like the idea of having a stick really attached to the tree. I've had the LWHC slip out on hard side pressure (that might be me doing something wrong; adding screw in steps has helped).

My biggest issue, if you can even call it that, with the JX3 is I am shooting trad this year. The configuration of the bridge and tether and what not is suboptimal for my little recurve shooting. I likely need more practice.

Glad to hear that I'm also 5'6" but at 160

Has anyone done the Gen2 improvements to there Gen1? Thread location? I ordered the JX3 right before they announced the Gen2 and some of the improvements seem nice. Don't wanna drop another $400 on the gen2 when my gen1 hasn't hardly been used.

Anybody have a DIY idea to retrofit the original with something like the silicone wear pads?

One stick climbing is a very simple with the hybrid. Put the stick up a couple of feet, climb to the top swing to the side of the tree relax and rest on the fork while you grab the stick and slide it up. Repeat the process on the way down. I carry about 13 pounds total

Do you attach a tether to the stick in case you accidentally drop it?

I have a "bungee" thing from an old summit climber that was used to keep the bottom and top of the climber attached in the event the bottom slipped out from under you, you could retrieve it. It's a small, but strong bungee, dark green. I use this on my lone wold hand climber and on my one stick when I use one stick. I girth hitch the bungee to the LWHC / 1 stick, then clip it to my lineman's belt loop or to one of the molle loops somewhere on the saddle.

The good thing about the JX3 is that if you end up losing your LWHC/stick, as I have, the comfort of the fork and the seat allows you to not get all frazzled while trying to retrieve your climbing aid. It just gives me a piece of mind, because I have had the bottom of an old climber fall out from me after completely failing.

This is it plus summit backpack straps at wally world, but you could prob DIY something for less than $20

I'm feeling a little bamboozled. I asked in the spring time if there were any improvements in the near future before I placed my order because every time I order something a new version comes out right after. I was told no, then waited 2 months for my JX3 to arrive, a month or two later a new version with improvements!! So now I have the original that I haven't even hunted out of yet and there is a new improved version that is ready to ship with no waiting lol

I think that happens to us all if we order enough saddles

I ordered the new jx3 on Thursday of last week... it shipped same day and arrived today! All I can say is wow!!! This thing is slick! I’ve tried 8 or 9 different saddles and nothing compares to the comfort of this thing! The jx3 is def in a league of its own!

I hate to hear that. I don't know how large their support staff is. It's possible the person you spoke to had no idea. I would hate to think they just outright lied to you. Honestly if I had that email exchange in my history, I would reply and ask if there is anything that can be done.
