This is the first picture I've gotten of this buck. Hope he hangs around.[ Ignore the date, that camera can't hold the date programming. The date should be October 24, 2020. ATTACH type="full"]37864[/ATTACH]

So the epilogue to this bucks story, I shot him yesterday with my longbow. I was in a conventional tree stand, not a saddle, it is what it is in that regard.
Fantastic experience. I measured him at 190 2/8 gross and 177 net nontypical.megabrowkillres.jpg

Congrats! Man what a buck . . . I'm at a loss for words over him.

So let us hear the strategy! How did you go from a few night pictures to arrowing him with a long bow?
I have 25 acres of timber and brush that holds some deer. Across a private lane from mine is 80 acres of brush that holds a lot of deer. That's probably where he was living. The owners never go into the woods, everything they do is on the roadway or in a small 6 acre ag field. So big bucks find major security there.
Getting one of those deer is a matter of luck really. At any rate I hunted my favorite stand several times that week with deer passing by within range of my longbow but all the 3 1/2 year old bucks were crossing the ditch head and traveling the ridge across the draw. It happened 3 days of the 3 I sat there.
So I put a stand up there. First time I sat there no bucks of any size showed up. The next day, Friday the 13th, I saw a 1 1/2 year old at 7:30, then nothing until a doe came wandering up the draw at 9:20.....followed by this buck. She meandered this way then away from me in a double S pattern that eventually led the buck within 10 yards of the base of the tree. Good for me, bad for the buck.
So I can't brag of any great skill in the taking of this buck.
Only those skills we all possess to some degree, patient, persistent observation.
