New Climbing Steps

i appreciate his responsiveness to customer feedback, but i'll bet most clamoring for this have never threaded cam-buckle steps while climbing. it's a pita compared to a simple buckle --i.e., hook---or a hitch.

if he would like to offer an alternative to what he has so far, a buckle-on strap or a buckle-on amsteel would be welcome.

there was a buckle-hook version of the old ameristep and later bullman ripoff ---that's what he needs to bring back.

I agree that threading a buckle can be a pain. The Amsteel attachment has worked great so far. Even on a wet Walnut.
Some people take 10 steps and climb. But their are other uses.

Some use 2 or 3 steps to hang trail cams. Or if you have a climbing stand you can hang the platform 4 feet off ground and use 2 steps to get on the platform. So some may prefer a strap.

i agree a few threads are no big deal. it's a great option for him to offer if someone has issues with another version.

but if you are in the nosebleed club as i am, threading straps gets old about halfway up.

in the absence of a buckle-hook version, the amsteel with the dogbone looks good to me, but there are those who mourn the loss of the alpine buckle ---

i haven't tried any of the newer bullman stuff, so i am just throwing out my opinion as a long-time and widely traveled step user, relying on you knuckleheads to straighten me out where needed.

I had a issue with the buckle bumping the step making a little noise. One option is stealth strip or this rubber fender washer. Cost .65 cents at True Value.

I too had this problem and ended up sandwiching the buckle in stealth strip and trimming around the edges with scissors, cutting openings in the buckle and sliding the Amsteel loop back through. Works perfectly

Just ordered a set of these along with the ring of steps. If they work out, I'll be selling my trophyline sticks and mission platform for anyone interested.

I plan on running the climbing pack bullman sells for the steps and my essential hunting gear. However, I will need another backpack for layers later in the season (I'm up in Western NY). Does anyone have any recommendations on a cheap streamlined pack for later in the season? I already have an old kifaru framepack for packing out meat but I'm not a fan on brining it every time I am in the woods.

I'll tell you what annoys the hell out of me about bullman. Ordered steps last week, shipping label created the same day. STILL no tracking information as it says shipper does not have the item. This same deal happened last time i ordered stuff from them. I have a 4 day hunt starting this friday I had planned to use them on. Im in NC, he is in OH. Just ship the damn things!!

Did you open e mail and go to view your order?

I have had quick shipping from them.

Tracking just updated. USPS didnt even get it until today at 12:22pm. Wont arrive until 10/14 now. I am tempted to just send them back when they arrive. Needed them specifically for this weekend. Now that I got my treehopper bit and 40 bolts, I dont know if I even want to use them now. Spent a stack of money on them , so they better be good.

I went with the full bullman kit, saddle, ROS, origin steps with amsteel, and carry bag. I got the climbing stuff secondhand but got the saddle from bullman and it arrived within a week of ordering

I only had about an hour to tinker but so far I’m impressed. Got up in 17 minutes and down in 15. That’s twice as long as my Trophyline set up but i consider that not bad for my first time. Even if I never get it down to sub 10 minutes, it’s probably worth the sacrifice for the weight/bulk factor.

The steps were pretty solid but spacing them properly is definitely going to take more practice. Not once did I feel sketchy on the steps. I had to reset the ROS a couple times but they were mint once I set them right. I assume I can set them right the first time after some practice.

That two panel buzzard roost saddle was super comfy but I wasn’t up there long so we’ll see. I am more of a sitter and sitting felt more natural with the ROS over my mission platform.

Will probably try to hunt with this once then sell my trophyline set up. I think I can get away with using just that bullman carry pack into November. Still not sure what backpack I want to pair it with but it’ll either be my old frame pack (just because I have it) or a cheap 30-40L Amazon pack.

I hunt using every option, saddle, .75, Crossover and Pac Seat. I use the best tool. A saddle set up for me is best for smaller diameter trees. One of the reasons I have not been using a saddle much anymore is sticks. Packing sticks make me use a bigger pack. I want a small pack I can use for everything. Keep it simple. No repacking, I know where everything is.
Now with Origin steps my Wolf Pack can do it all. I dont start hunting until October 25th. So I can say that the Origin steps are the answer but so far on my practice climbs they are working.

Origin steps seem to get mixed reviews
I get they pack small but with 1 stick and 1 aider I’m at 7 feet already

I have not seen any negative reviews on this forum.
If you dont like aiders, then steps are your only option I know of that get you 10 steps high under 3lbs weight. But I am a old toad trying to be a tree frog.
I had fractured foot on a cable aiders and if you fall on a stick, landing on a stick below you is no fun.

What mixed reviews on the Origins? I've seen some on the older models, but not the Origins. A lot of people don't like fooling with packing and unpacking sticks. I like that I can just walk up to a tree, grab a step really quick, and put it on.
