Hello all,
I new to the whole saddle hunting world. I have not purchased any gear to start but will be starting to gather everything for next years season. I'm looking for some suggestions on saddles, ropes, climbing methods and any tips you guys can give. Thanks

Welcome from SE Michigan! Lots of great info on the site. For saddles you can be up and running in no time with a DIY fleece saddle, or you can wait for a commercial one. There are a couple companies that sell saddles and you can get them pretty quick too. For ropes, I'm biased since I sell these, but 8mm Oplux is really a great rope. What have you been using to climb before entering the saddle hunting world? Do you hunt public or private? Since you can't penetrate the bark on public this influences your choices in a climbing method.

Welcome. Try everything free that you can. Find someone near you and see if they will work with you. There is a saddlehunter google map.

Welcome from Louisiana! Any question you have has probably already been answered on this site. Use the search feature in top right hand corner. If you don’t find what you are looking for then don’t be afraid to ask.

I live on 18 acre so normal I hunt that but I am looking to start hunting public and find some new private. I usually have hang ons with sportsmans guide climbing sticks. I own a climber but not a big fan of it. I have been watching alot of the videos people have been posting about diy style sticks and using ropes to as their main climbing method. I'm not in any hurry to get out in the woods with my set up. I want to get everything decided and put together. Then take time to get comfortable with the new set up

I just found that post. It looks like there are a couple guys near me. Thank you for the tip

All of the products available are preferred by someone. I have
Mantis Saddle
Predator platform
Tethrd LB and Tether
Ropeman 1s
Cranford scaffold ROS
LoneWolf sticks
Cranford rope steps
Treehopper drill and bolts
I don't have them because they're the best, I have them because that's what I decided to try. They are all good.
And I still have my hang ons, ladders, blind, etc.
Unfortunately, I had to buy all of these items to try them. If I had it to do over, I would try to make a saddlehunter friend nearby and try theirs.

Welcome to the madness, this is a great site for learning. @DanO has eastern woods outdoors website. Has some great stuff when you decide to start building your kit. Excellent service and prices. Once you start hunting out of a saddle you wont go back.

Welcome from Maryland, read a lot & learn to search most of it has been covered. That said if you don’t see it ask, great group here!

Welcome from Northern Virginia. It's good you're not in a hurry to start this season, gives you plenty of time to work out the kinks before next. Seems like every time I sit I find something I want to change. You'll be nice and fine tuned when the season opener starts.

Welcome from the Boyne area!. Which saddle is hte most comfortable seems to be different for everyone so, as @NATHAN suggested, if you can locate someone near you who will let you test drive a saddle it helps.

We also had a couple of Michigan saddlehunter get togethers last year where we compared gear and demonstrated our methods. Hopefully we'll be able to get some more of those organized come this spring. If you're not in a hurry it may be good to keep your eye open for one of these this spring. Personally I found them really enjoyable from a camaraderie standpoint and I even learned a few things. :)

Welcome from super southeast michigan. Not sure where you are located but willing to let you try out my setup before buying. Wish I wouldve taken someone up on it.

Same here. I’m in Genesee county. This is my first season so I am still learning a lot. Like it has already been said, take your time, trial and error with your setup

Thank you for all the warm welcome to forum. Dawiz9578 thank you for the offer on letting try your set up. I would like to take you up on that maybe towards the spring time. I live in south Lyon. I've already found alot of useful information looking through the site.

You live right down the street from me. I'm in Novi. You'd be more than welcome to try out my stuff as well. I have multiple climbing systems. Don't know how big of a boy you are but my Kestrel is a size 1 which is suitable to a size 36 waist (?). I also have a barcalounger that is one size fits most.
