I’m going to take the plunge and try saddle hunting this year! I just ordered a Buzzards Roost Saddle, and I have plans (in my head) to make a DIY climbing platform. If anyone’s ever done that, I’d like to see your’s!
Where I hunt it’s all Loblolly Pine (basically telephone poles with bark) in cutovers, so I’m only looking to get 10-12 feet up—enough so I can see above the briars. I want to make a climbing platform for trees 6”-12” in diameter.

Welcome from Mississippi! Some folks have made climbing platforms out of Lone Wolf Climber tops, but I believe they are prone to breakage. I do know that one member here currently uses the bottom of a Summit climber successfully. You might also look at the technique I use. It's called 2TC, Two Tether Climbing. If you have used a climber before, the moves will be very familiar, but the benefit is that the whole system is made of climbing rope and it is very lightweight and compact.
