Hey guys, first post here. I randomly stumbled across an illustrated image on pinterest of a guy saddle hunting, had no idea what was going, clicked on it on a whim and a week later here I am, intrigued.

I'm a hardcore DIYer, like to a fault. I've been lurking around here a little bit trying to put together an idea of how I'm going to make all this stuff myself. I've seen some excellent info I hadn't really thought about, like links to sewing vidoes and what not. Also have seen, and will heed, the safety warnings about DIY. Ropes and climbing aren't exactly new to me, I'm an electrician and have done my fair share of climbing. Kind of into safety at work, kind of into it with hunting as well, not looking to fall. So I'm all ears with any safety recommendations.

Anyways looking forward to getting to know some folks and hopefully share my diy setup by next fall.

On a side note and hopefully I dont get yelled at on my first post for not posting in the correct part of this site... There has been this three legged doe running around my place for the last few years. Shes missing a back leg below the joint. I saw her today in my tree stand, couldn't get a shot off, and I'm kind of glad I didn't have the opportunity, because now I'm not sure what the right move was... she's been three legged for at least two years now and she seems to be doing fine. I don't know what made her lose her leg, but i saw her with it hanging on by a thread and found the leg after it fell off in my yard. I guess my question is, what would you do in that situation and why? It just happened an hour ago and I'm not sure what I should have done had I had a shot at her.

( I'm in 2b for you PA types that wonder what I was doing in a tree stand in the first place)

Welcome to SH! You have come to the right place for DIY. Great folks on here that will be happy to share their experiences and opinions. AS far as the doe goes any death you give her will be far more merciful then the one she will get in the wild or highway. So if you got a clean kill shot let it fly! Not sure that at this point your putting her out of any pain or suffering as its been two years. But if a local Yote starts chasing her pack all the other deer are gonna be thinking "all I gotta do is out run the three legged one! "

Welcome from Northern Westmoreland County.
Where are you in 2B?
We had a 3 legged doe running around here for several years...missing a back leg at the tarsal just like your doe.
She was doing just fine. She had twin fawns several years in a row.
We nicknamed her "Stumpy" and decided we would give her a pass since she was living just fine and breeding well.
She ended up as road kill.
Chimney7...you wouldnt happen to be the chimney sweep would you? Ash's chimney service? Ive had Ash's clean mine...we always talked hunting while he was here.

How dare you discriminate against her just because she has a physical disability! All she wants is to be treated like every other deer. Get woke you ableist bigot and shoot her.

Not a chimney sweep, I'm in between butler and Pittsburgh. I've done a little fly fishing out your way.

Ours is nicknamed tripod. If I hit her with my car on the way to work tomorrow I will be upset.

Welcome from Western MD.

As far as the doe goes, if you want to shoot a doe, shoot her buy I wouldn't shoot her just because of the leg. The first buck I shot as a kid was missing a rear leg. He had lost it the year before I assume because it was healed over and he was chasing does like nothing was wrong. They are amazing creatures and can survive a lot.

Welcome, 2B as well. I probably wouldn’t wanna shoot her, but I’m getting soft lol.

Welcome! From northern wash county, grew up in the south hills. You'll find a bunch of us around swpa in a saddle!
Regarding the doe, you made the right decision because it was yours to make. Period. When it comes something this personal, you can ask 100 people and get 100 different answers!
Hope to see you at this year's meet up! Speaking of that.....
