New Gear for 2023, Go!

Lancaster archery just released a video on the latitude carbon sticks about 50 minutes ago on YouTube.

If they really weigh 19 oz, then they are the same weight as my Tethrd One Sticks with Stealth Strips and RDA rope mod.

Even out of the pack stock (with stack pegs and their Chinasteel rope) my One sticks were all over 16 ounces.

These won't require Stealth Strips (to nearly the same degree...I wouldn't stealth strip them) so that cost and ounce or so is gone. Also, the Latitude sticks will be easier to use with a CAYG aider. You'll be able to use a simple webbing loop.

I like em.

Probably not enough to make me spend 100.00 a stick.

But,

On the unique topic…I’m going to speculate that they don’t have great protection in place for their IP here. Which means someone much better at everything downstream of the idea factory will copy the best parts, tweak the bad parts, and offer basically the same thing for 50.00 each. I might be interested at that point.

I appreciate their contribution to the game. And I appreciate the next in line who makes it palatable for me to use them.

Because if you have a UNIQUE idea, as in, the literal sense, and it adds value to peoples lives, our curren IP laws offer you bulletproof protection to monetize your idea.

If you have a unique idea, as in, you feel like you own it because you may have thought of it first, our system is currently set up well for you to attempt monetize it, then people way better at business than you monetize it better, with almost no risk.

Point being, people might FEEL like taking someone else’s idea is wrong. But our feet and our wallets suggest otherwise. We want cheap stuff that does what we want. And we buy it like crazy.

It’s not a good business strategy to make something that can’t be protected by a very broad net. You might get lucky and take advantage of a wave of interest. But if your business is not optimizing production and distribution and having the capital to operate in low margins, you will be beat.

Fair enough, I was adding my spin to "unique"....meaning actually innovative, in contrast to literally just different enough to qualify for patent protection.

I'd say that people and markets have some diversity. For instance, there is a niche for companies that wear their ethics on their sleeve. I seek those companies out and so do a lot of folks, including a lot of folks here. I'll gladly pay more for an item when I like the folks making it. It makes me feel better about owning it. Of course, you're correct about the larger mass market, but that's what Hawk and others are for. So, it might come down to knowing your audience. If you are marking to the type of folks that are here then the company shouldn't be surprised if we discuss their backstory.

I’ll probably give those latitude sticks a shot. I’ll just have to figure out some aiders.

I’m out on the the climber because I won’t use it at all. I’m already second guessing the latitude sticks based on dimensions. 17” seems really short to me.

Timber Ninja 2 panel Black Belt Ultimate

Not the best video. I want to see more of the saddle, less of the magnetic features but nonetheless....

What platform is that??

I think that is the magic number for TMA certification or some such.

I'm 6 foot and find anything over 20 inch not super easy to use "correctly", meaning just stepping up while leaning back into the lineman's lanyard and not grabbing the stick and climbing up like a monkey with a slacked lanyard.

When I was younger and didn't know/care as much about safety....I could really space those suckers out....like 3 foot spacing.

I forget every year. I hunt a tree when it’s 60*, and I have huge spacing between steps.

Then I hunt it when it’s 30*, and I’m cussing because I’m 16’ high and sticking out like a sore thumb.

Am I wrong to think you could use the Lwcg climber bottom with a saddle as a climbing method? I thought that's why people on here were using hand climbers and wanting a lightweight climber to be available? Seems like it would work awesome if you lived in an area with trees that were suitable.

I don’t mean to be a square or anything… some of this stuff is cool, but I don’t think I’ll be upgrading or buying anything new to change my setup. I’m not saying that others shouldn’t pursue these new items especially if money is a non issue, but a lot of this is sorta “meh” to me

It’s kind of like driving that 10 year old vehicle that doesn’t look as nice as it did years ago…. But it gets me from A to B without any issues.

(Still here loling at they “uno” stick though).

It’s really all that many of us want. Some (like me) prefer the larger platform (LWCG climber bottom) and others a smaller hand climber top (XOP machined climber seat?)

If they aren’t released as separates and I can‘t work something out with someone for the half I like, I’m going to stick with my 10lb cut down Alpha Sit and Climb platform. No advantage spending $900 for a two piece system that weighs the same only to maybe climb a little faster.

But the reduced weight of the machined LWCG climber bottom over my current climbing platform commands my sincere interest.

And the new design is smart.

Not everyone has this or that piece of gear to begin with. And some enjoy the efficiencies new designs offer. No one is saying you need this…except the salespersons, lol.

Timber Ninja is on the list as releasing the carbon stand. Maybe the second time is trick.
The guy from hunting gear deals sales said he cut his finger on the new XOP stand. I guess it’s a super rough finish.

I’m really liking the price point of the Latitude sticks. My only concern is how they bite on various trees with different bark styles and super small diameter trees that I seem to find myself in often in marsh/swamp settings
