Anyone putting deer down yet?

I had some does dead on broadside at 15 yards but let them walk. It was early and I was hoping a buck would come out. I’m seeing does but that’s it. The hot weather isn’t optimal. Not an excuse but I’m thinking it is having an impact.

Nothing yet - haven't seen many either - been out a bunch - definitely second guessing myself.

Saw a Bobcat where I was hoping deer would show.
Couldn’t figure out how to post the video

I saw a couple last year in boscawen was so majestic. Also scary quiet I had one stalk me on opening day the year before. I always seem to find more predators then deer so cool

I had one come up about 5 yds away during turkey season in 2019. He came around a bush and stared at me for almost a minute before walking the other way. A couple minutes later I hear a doe blow, and she's staring in the direction the bobcat headed. A very cool morning, indeed.

Haha funny you said that about the bobcat. I had a small one run in on me tonight right at last light he got my Hope's thinking he was a deer little bugger.

Would love to hear how others are doing in NH this season? I just can not figure this out - again.
I hunt public in a half dozen towns across south western and south central NH. Just can't consistently find deer. I scout a good amount - at least once every weekend in the off-season. But probably see deer 1 out if 5 sits.
Wondering if it's just me and if others have tips for finding deer in NH.

I have the opposite problem. I’ve had 7 buck encounters but just can’t put a shot on them. Once I was too picky and was passing a good shot for a great shot, stupid. Shot at the biggest buck I’ve ever seen broadside and missed low and I’m pretty good in the moment so I was perplexed. Pulled the arrow when I was done hunting and saw the head was gone and the tip was stuffed full of dirt. I heard a whiff when I shot, what happened was my BH was loose from a month and a half of hunting and putting it in and out of the quiver so it was totally loose and when I shot it just spun right off. I cannot believe I would have my first truly mature buck right now if I were not so stupid as to forget to check my BH for tightness. I know better than that.

I’m having a great season for sightings but that’s not the norm for me. In 5 seasons before this I’ve seen only two NH bucks and both I killed. I’m not good at even getting cam picks!

but I attribute the improvement this year to the following:

- got to scout in season, I don’t stop until I’m on sign. Even if it’s a solid track, you got to findSOMETHING that is fresh

- hunt the edges, got to have habitat diversity and be on an edge

- access matters! I’ve learned approaching spots from the exact opposite direction from years past has made a huge difference

- do your homework. That means watch every single THP, Infalt and Catman video on YouTube Bud especially THP! They are basically providing a free and entertaining masters degree in hunting

All good suggestions above.
Read some of uncle Nutter and Kylers posts / shared content and apply to your approach.
Unfortunately, one sighting every 5 sits isnt necessarily out of whack for parts of NH and pressured/ shared use public land.
If you are rotating between 6 spots it does seem low though.
Try to find unlikely access points and keep changing up based on what you are seeing / not seeing.
I fall into this trap often with " park here" public spots or based on camera intel/ post season scouting.

Find small honey holes where pressure is light from public it doesn’t need to be big pieces at all I think I proved that to @TreeCreep and @Patriot this year I have had a lot of encounters seeing deer and screwing up plenty as well. I have and still do drive around and look for access points that are public accessible even though they might be in people backyards I have scouted many places over the years but I still go to my small areas because I know the deer are there just got to hit the right time and things will fall into places. In the off season check out the golf courses and old cemetery’s ask for permission if needed I have done that. The best place I ever had was in a sub division that bordered a golf course which I was the only one allowed to hunt the back side of the golf course. It would be nothing to see up to 20 to 30 deer a day in there and I was only a 5 minute walk from my stand if I choose to hunt the stand and if I heard a dog barking then within 5 minutes there would be several deer under my tree every time unfortunately I lost access to it because a old friend decided to argue with a neighbor and I know how to get in there still from another access point but to far of a walk to get in there now and of course they built new houses on one side but I know even if I go back in there I could find the deer. So instead of hunting multiple areas focus on 2 areas and really really learn the area for a season or two. It will pay off in the long run

I’m not saying hunt in the peoples back yard and know the boundary’s but find pinch points and where there coming and going to and cut them off

My seasons been rough as well I seem to find super fresh sign but have not seen but 2-3 deer all season just hasn't been coming together for me. So I feel your pain. Plus I've had limited time due to work.

Yes. What @Razorbak66 offers is $. Big takeaway for me this year
Im scouting for next year at small overlooked spots too; On opposite ends of where i used to access public, on X maps , undeveloped areas near athletic fields...
Instead of side of road or trailhead type access points. ive parked at small businesses / industrial parks and found more sign w less pressure . Not many hunters notice if your in and out under cover of night.
I was driving past prime habitat just to go on long " beast " style hikes and still dealing w pressure.

I hunted small parcels by buildings early on in the season in zone M and saw a pile of deer. Closed the gap on a doe and ran out of time before jumping back to Maine to fill those tags. Never over look small pieces in NH, they hold a ton of deer.

What I learn is super fresh sign is not always a guarantee but I keep in mind where that location is and figure out where there coming from like when @TreeCreep and I was tracking his deer we came across a fresh scrape that was minutes old as the urine was still in a puddle in top of the scrape not time to absorb into the ground yet. We possibly just missed him within minutes But Eric set up near there a few days later and shot a nice buck possibly going to it. So if you find a fresh spot you feel strongly about set up on it and hunt it a few hunts. You never know. I will admit NH is very hard to hunt not like some states where the deer density is thicker and more deer in the state. You can’t kill a deer if your not out there so even if no deer is seen where you set up look for trails as your in your saddle or stand and start playing chess with them sooner or later it will pay off and I stress learn the areas you hunt even if a season or two goes by without killing a deer. It will pay off specially now with rut going on those crazy horn dogs have 1 thing on their mind as many of us guys do. They will make a mistake as we do but got to be out there. I fully do not expect every time I go out to see a deer but to learn why I didn’t see one and I learned this year that the higher I’m in a tree I’m seeing deer versus traditional stand height up to 20 ft. I’m now at 35 ft in average and seeing more out in distance and seeing where their coming and going from and while I like cameras they are not always helpful as I know many of you have huge bucks on your cameras. Ever notice that it’s 90% at night. So figure out what direction their coming From and going to and vice or versa and do not be picky it’s not the time to be picky. Kill the first available legal deer then you can be choosey after as I’m not one of those guys who walks in the woods and drop a huge buck I wasn’t born with a golden horse shoe up my ass. I have to work for it like the next guy. So good luck to all my fella NH hunters. Just simple things you need to do and you will be successful!
